Merry Christmas and happy New Years, most of the current members probably don’t know me, the older members, Paul Hilborn, Jack Black, Gevo, Jacktrades NBK, Jackknife and a few others are old pals sorry if I left anyone out, I know some others from my time are no longer regulars here Andi, Doug Ad, Jon Slider and Flint Hills come to mind anyway I digress.
I’ve passed the 8 years mark of consistently carrying my chestnut bone cv peanut every single day, not once skipping.
For the folks who are newer I was gifted a Case peanut by my newly born daughter 8 years ago, at the time my main carry knives for work were a GEC moose, a opinel #9 or a large Boker stockman, as a kid I carried smaller knives like a Case 6201, small Buck etc. I was thrilled when I received the little peanut but at the time I thought of it more as a trinket than a working tool and said it’s small enough I’m going to carry it every day. Well to my surprise every time I needed a knife my right hand would slip into my watch/coin pocket of my jeans pull the peanut out open the pen blade and do what needed to be done and returned. To my own amazement I started to use the peanut more than any other knife, I still carry a larger knife paired with it, mainly because I’m inflicted and a knife nut but that only comes out in situations that require a larger blade or emergencies where you need to muscle through and not take thoughtful use of your knife, but the small pen blade on my peanut is probably the most used pocket knife blade of mine, it’s past older knives that I also carried for long periods of time. When I was originally gifted the peanut a few months later I came across BladeForums and found Jackknifes tales which I’m sure like others fueled my peanut glory, I’m sure Carl’s dad would be impressed I’ve done everything with this little jack knife, fixed meals, countless fixes of appliances, toys, carpentry task, clean crappies, whittle you name it it’s been used to do it, the pen blade has been used for all sorts of poking, proding, scraping, scribing, an awl and yes even light prying. The jigging has been naturally pocket worn, the shields edges have rounded and smooth, the blades are showing some ware, thinning as it’s used often and kept sharp, it’s patina is a dull grey and always in a state of flux. Too bad photobucket has turned the internet into a ghetto of broken windows or I’d post a picture, I’ll try and find a way to post pictures, is there anyway of posting directly with the new BF format or does it still require a hosting site? It’s been a long while since I’ve posted anything, here are some older links of my peanuts journey.

Thanks just tried but says I’m blocked by BF?
I use Imgur, and I think I'm not alone in that. As a paying member you can upload directly. I don't do it because I think there might be a limit on direct uploads, but I'm too lazy to check.
Nice peanut story.

Nice to see you back on the forum! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
Congrats on 8 years with your Peanut. I think Carl infected many of us with Peanutitis. I know I've got at least a mild case of it myself.
You might want to try imgur to host and post. Many members use it. Here's some pretty good instructions, How to: post pictures using Imgur (comprehensive).

Stich2442. Great story.

I've carried and used mine for years. Like you I've used it to fillet fish, meal prep and to fix a lot of things.

It started out as pocket worn Bermuda green and is now just about smooth and has turned to almost black.

You can amaze a lot of people with something so small. As long as it is sharp the size doesn't matter.

God Bless
Tracy

Pete....surprised and delighted to see your post. Happy New Year. I really don't post much anymore...but I check the porch 5 or 6x a week. I do miss seeing Andi's, Doug Ad's, and of course Big Biscuit's posts. Glad to see you and the 'nut still getting on so well. I seem to recall that you used to give a Presidential and an Eisenhower a pretty good workout too. Be well!
Peter

I've often considered a Peanut but the only thing holding me back is the apparent redundancy of two bellied blades. Though I don't have a whole lot of experience with pen blades. Is it still flat enough to sort of act as a modified sheepsfoot or something?

I can certainly see why you've been away from the forum a while, this place is hell on knife commitment.
There's too much temptation around here, it's much easier to forget about your other knives when you don't have people posting pics and Getty you in to mood to carry yours.
I certainly hope my Case Texas Jack eventually looks as beautifully broken in as your lovely little peanut, but I'm only about 4 years into traditional now and not ready to slow down yet.

The peanut is a great little knife, personally the looks are a little funky to me but I still like mine enough to keep it.

I too am infected with legume fever. I've got a passel of em. I need to take a family photo of them.

I carry one every day and generally use it over other knives.

Take a look around for a "Pinched Peanut". A little pricey but a very well made little knife, bordering on custom quality.

I know this thread is about the peanut, but would it be to much trouble to show that beautiful spring green bone courthouse Whittler you have?

Haven't seen a patina update on that in quite some time.

Good to see you around Pete. I applaud your commitment. I only made it three years with my #73 as an EDC before I got twitchy. I'm too much of a knife nut; I want variety. It's simply my primary carry now, though I still carry it a good six days out of the week.

Pete, what a pleasant surprise to see you post here my friend!!! I often think of you and the others you mentioned. I remember when you moved to your piece of paradise that your posts became fewer and fewer and understandably so. I liked the pictures from your porch as Gev mentioned. I often think that former members simply moved on and that BF just lost it's allure or the temptation to buy new knives was to hard to resist, the alcoholic and Bar scenario so the decision to step back was made.
I just posted in Carl's peanut thread recently about being reacquainted with the little slicey wonder. I started carrying my 2007 yeller cv nut a few weeks back and really like having it back in my pocket. I love seeing the honest pocket wear on your treasured knife:thumbsup:
It made my day finding your post today and hope you continue to drop by;)
