8 Years of the Peanut

Merry Christmas and happy New Years, most of the current members probably don’t know me, the older members, Paul Hilborn, Jack Black, Gevo, Jacktrades NBK, Jackknife and a few others are old pals sorry if I left anyone out, I know some others from my time are no longer regulars here Andi, Doug Ad, Jon Slider and Flint Hills come to mind anyway I digress.
I’ve passed the 8 years mark of consistently carrying my chestnut bone cv peanut every single day, not once skipping.
For the folks who are newer I was gifted a Case peanut by my newly born daughter 8 years ago, at the time my main carry knives for work were a GEC moose, a opinel #9 or a large Boker stockman, as a kid I carried smaller knives like a Case 6201, small Buck etc. I was thrilled when I received the little peanut but at the time I thought of it more as a trinket than a working tool and said it’s small enough I’m going to carry it every day. Well to my surprise every time I needed a knife my right hand would slip into my watch/coin pocket of my jeans pull the peanut out open the pen blade and do what needed to be done and returned. To my own amazement I started to use the peanut more than any other knife, I still carry a larger knife paired with it, mainly because I’m inflicted and a knife nut but that only comes out in situations that require a larger blade or emergencies where you need to muscle through and not take thoughtful use of your knife, but the small pen blade on my peanut is probably the most used pocket knife blade of mine, it’s past older knives that I also carried for long periods of time. When I was originally gifted the peanut a few months later I came across BladeForums and found Jackknifes tales which I’m sure like others fueled my peanut glory, I’m sure Carl’s dad would be impressed I’ve done everything with this little jack knife, fixed meals, countless fixes of appliances, toys, carpentry task, clean crappies, whittle you name it it’s been used to do it, the pen blade has been used for all sorts of poking, proding, scraping, scribing, an awl and yes even light prying. The jigging has been naturally pocket worn, the shields edges have rounded and smooth, the blades are showing some ware, thinning as it’s used often and kept sharp, it’s patina is a dull grey and always in a state of flux. Too bad photobucket has turned the internet into a ghetto of broken windows or I’d post a picture, I’ll try and find a way to post pictures, is there anyway of posting directly with the new BF format or does it still require a hosting site? It’s been a long while since I’ve posted anything, here are some older links of my peanuts journey.

Pete, what a pleasant surprise to see you post here my friend!!! I often think of you and the others you mentioned. I remember when you moved to your piece of paradise that your posts became fewer and fewer and understandably so. I liked the pictures from your porch as Gev mentioned. I often think that former members simply moved on and that BF just lost it's allure or the temptation to buy new knives was to hard to resist, the alcoholic and Bar scenario so the decision to step back was made.
I just posted in Carl's peanut thread recently about being reacquainted with the little slicey wonder. I started carrying my 2007 yeller cv nut a few weeks back and really like having it back in my pocket. I love seeing the honest pocket wear on your treasured knife:thumbsup:
It made my day finding your post today and hope you continue to drop by;)

Hey Pete! Great to see you here my friend :) Hope all is well, and that you're still getting time to do a little fishin' I'm still proud to own your original Peanut, a very kind gift when I first started posting on The Porch :) Hope to see more of you around Pete :)

PETE!

Soooo glad to see you pop in! And I'm so glad the mighty legume is still working out so well for you. Of course, any of the members of the faithful could have predicted that, and The Cult seems to be doing well with loyal members. The peanut is like a lot of the 'small things' that get under estimated. You certainly have the hard won genuine pocket worn look on the beautiful 'nut.

How have you been all this time? I hope you will drop in more often and let us know how its all going.

Pete, good to see ya buddy. I drift in and out but some of the names stay the same ;)

Glad to see that peanut still being put to good use!

Hope all is well on your little slice of this planet and you and your family had a Merry Christmas.

Wishing you a great 2020 as well :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome (back) I didn’t expect so many responses, great to see so many old user names and new

Pjake the Eisenhower is still one of my favorite small knives, I hope you are doing well

Gevonovich I hope all is well with you and you and your family my wife still wears your sisters jewelry she made, along with many things from you.

Kamagong I hear you I’m still a knife nut, I carry multiple knives but my peanut is always with me and used more than anything else I carry, I went off the road a few weeks back with my truck, took me an hour of digging and putting pine boughs under my tires, I’m sure if I wanted to take my time I could’ve used my peanut but I was sure glad I had my Copperlock with me also.

Paul my friend I hope you and the family are well you have the boys working for you yet? I still carry the 62087 one of my treasured possessions

Jack believe it or not my daughters piggy flashlight you sent her batteries just died haha she is nagging me to find batteries for it, and my wife uses the bag your girlfriend made to bring her knitting projects with her

Charlie always enjoy your wealth of knowledge and history and providing the heartbeat to all of us inflicted with the traditional knife disease bringing back pattens most manufacturers forgot about a long time ago, I have an early TC#15 Sheepsfoot and African Blackwood sent to me via Jon Slider, I hope Jon is well many folks on here I used to communicate via email with, unfortunately a few years back my phone died along with all my contacts.

Wurrwulf thank you and that Bermuda green bone is awesome looking

Carl how are you? hope Texas is treating you right, and you’re not having to pop too many rattlers with your NAA, just been spending as much time with my girls while they are still young we have a blast, and I try to keep busy, winter, well is winter so snow keeps me busy, then around 3 years ago I started tapping my trees so depending on temps February/March I boil sap for syrup, then after thaw I start my seeds for the garden and that keeps me busy all summer, rinse and repeat, but you’ll be pleased both my girls are knife nuts, and practical Olivia has a green micra ( 6th birthday present, same age I was when I got a KampKing) then her 7th she a Alox Vic rambler. Kaya because she kept stealing her sisters picked out a pink classic after a father daughter day we had out after a school field trip I had to stop at the trading post and she eye-spied a pink classic and I couldn’t say no she was way too excited, she doesn’t know but I have a pink micra I picked up for her 6th birthday next week. They are also getting into shooting sports both have a Red Ryder haha they are hilarious together.

Jeff how are your girls doing?, Olivia is quite the little angler she goes out with me to gather worms she digs right in and picks them right up, puts the worms on hooks, can cast accurately by herself, sets her hooks and will take the fish off and get in back into the water all by herself, my only problem is she wants me to cook everything we catch.
If I missed anyone it was not intentional typical weather today snow and ice so warming up by the fire and trying to get back to all the great folks here, thanks for the help getting setup scrteend porch and Peregrin always loved your fine knife collection and that sweet hummingbird and Justin I will get a picture for you soon.

Thanks
Pete
