$800 BM Foray . . .

expidia1 expidia1 , as @marcinek and @NJBillK have both suggested you would do well to familiarize yourself with knife buying/pricing options by doing some research yourself. You will find that going to Benchmade's site will always yield the MSRP for any knife, which you would be foolish to pay. You'll also find with Benchmade and several other companies that use MAP (Minimum Advertised Pricing) or similar maximum discounting policies, that the knife will be available at pretty much the same discounted price anywhere.

Bladeforums rules prohibit deal spotting by referring to dealers that are not registered at BF. Registered dealers pay a substantial fee to advertise here and their dollars provide a big chunk of the operating costs of this forum.

If you stick around here, read, and do some research before posting you will develop some friendships and gain some knowledge beyond "what's easier". If you do that and decide to become a paying member to likewise help support this forum, your new friends will be able to PM you helpful information not appropriate to General Knife Discussion threads.
OK Chazy. what you say makes sense. i just figured going to your vendors for BM they would all have the same prices as BM pretty much seems to be fair traded from their resellers as to minimum advertised prices. So far I’ve found the best deals (for me) have been from your members who are looking to raise cash or part with certain knives that they have collected. So far i’ve been on the buying side, but if I were on the selling side of course I’d have to buy a membership. For now I see your ads and im sure that generates revenue. See that was easy on that member that just quoted me he saw the $800 foray on pre-order at blade HQ. thats why I asked my question. I dont know if BladeHQ is one of your retailers. Your retailers could also respond to me seeing im in the market for a forray. im still new at this forum stuff. But so far its a great site and community.

Fair enough, but that's why Marcinek linked that dealers list for you. Blade HQ isn't that far down either, as the list is alphabetized. As you mentioned, the Exchange is indeed a great place to buy knives at prices a bit and considerably lower than retail and most all are in excellent to brand new condition. Aside from price, knives for sale by individuals on the Exchange are pre-screened as most all sellers are honest and forthright about the condition of their offerings. Of the way-too-many knives I own, way more than half have been bought on the secondary market here.

On the other hand, the General Knife Discussion forum is for talking about knives and not for soliciting offers for sale. Most of us here try to stay within the bounds of the rules and the spirit thereof. For my part, I didn't take a paid membership just to be able to sell knives either, but to help support this excellent platform for the knife community. The additional ability to Private Message allows for discussion apart from the bounds of the public forums.

Welcome, and hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks for all the comments. I finally located one for $485 which was delivered today!
As "Nick" would say . . . "It's a Gem"!

*The handle is darker than the pic shows. The sunlight lightened it in the pic. Its more of a black/dark grey which is a nice contrast with this busy looking knife design with the marbled CF pattern and the Damasteel blade.

Thanks. Ya everything is a trade off sometimes. Many don't like the screw hole going through the Mother of Pearl inlay. But that looks less obvious in person (or in knife haha).
Some did not like the way the thumbstud didn't match the spaces, but mine all match, so BM must have corrected that along the way. This one is #514.
I personally like the thumbstud and the spacer colors. But I prefer the blue color of the 940-1 spacers. I'm not a big fan of green, but these are more towards a turquoise/green. This is a busy looking knife and the colors help to offset the "a lot going on here" BM design.

My favorite Benchmade besides the iconic Osborne 940 (which I kept) is the Osborne 940-1 carbon fiber that I re-sold (this Foray is also CF as is 940-1).
The 940-1 is a black CF handle with blue spacers. At first, I originally loved the knife for its very light weight, but at 2.4 oz for me it was actually "too light". Made the knife to me feel rather toyish.

This Gold Class Foray weighs in at 3.46 oz which gives it a beefier feel and at least for me . . . it is a perfect Gentleman's carry.

I took a pic of the spaces as when viewed all together even though they are green they set the design off nicely IMO.

The 2nd pic is the blue spacers on the 940-1

I don't think that I could pay $800 for anything from Benchmade.
I'm definitely in the Benchmade camp, have owned over 30, and presently have a couple dozen. I've also been fortunate not to have any F&F or QC issues.

That said, $800 sounds like it should buy at least 3 or 4 BMKs anyway. ;)

Ya, I know what you mean. I actully bought 6 different BM models just to try out and I re-sold 2. I liked the look of this Foray when I first saw it last year when they introduced it. But I was not about to pay $800! Then the authorized online discounters started selling them for $680. Then some members here commented that I could find one eventually for $450-500.

Benchmade ticks me off on their declining quality control. Of the 6 I had to send 3 back to them for off center blades and grindy feeling axis locks when closing the blade. Then I lost the use of them for like 5 weeks until they returned them.
But out of the 16 knives I bought over a two months period just to try out some various brands . . . Ya can't beat Benchmade's designs and style. Of all the knives I had before I re-sold 10 of them by far the BM's were the easiest to open.
And ya can't beat their customer service. The Emissary they just returned to me had one screw missing (again with the quality control :() so I called them and the rep is sending me "an entire screw kit for that model".

I had to pay $36 for each MXG Gear deep carry clip for my CRK's, but Benchmade sent me 6 of them . . . 3 in black and 3 in silver "all for free"! I was going to order a deep carry clip for my $65 Kershaw Blur, but Amazon gets like $25.

A few weeks ago, I screwed up the blade on my $195 BM Emissary sharpening it on my Wicked Edge and Benchmade replaced the blade for $30 and got it back to me within 2 weeks.

So yes, they have their quality control issues, but when a company tries as hard as they do to please their customers (plus a lifetime warranty with free sharpening) . . . I had no qualms on paying the $485 for their Gold Class Foray (I still saved $195 if new buying online). You should see their Gold Class box it came it. Very impressive. Its all rubberized! Its like the box that comes with a very expensive watch.

I know "it's only a box" but check it out:

True Dat. Thats why I sold two of my 6 Benchmades, so I could roll those funds into the Foray. I bought the Foray on Saturday and Father's Day was the next day. So as a bonus, I suggeested to each member of my family they PP me cash instead of their usual Amazon gift cards . . . So out of pocket it only cost me $260! I told them now that they each chipped in, this Foray will become the "Family Grail Heirloom" :D

Good one @ 10after10 . :D Maybe that's why you hear all these guys complaining about issues with their Benchmades--they're using the wrong Paypal method.

I'm not sure that my family would actually contribute to my knife fetish if I decided to go after my grail Shirogorov Russian Doctor Death. At the cost of that beauty, one of them would have to win the lottery to make a dent in the price anyway. :p
