Hey guys I am looking to get an alternate carry to my 710HS so I can choose between two big knives in the morning.

I have narrowed it down to these three choises unless some one can give a good reasson to go somewhere else.

806D2, It's Benchmade, D2 is pretty good, The feel is great and it has a AXIS lock and oval holeand multipule carry options. MSRP $175

520, It's Benchmade, 154CM not my fav, never held it and it has a AXIS lock and oval holeand multipule carry options. MSRP $180

Spyderco Military, It's a Spydie, S30V is sharp as heck, the feel is good but it's linner lock and a round hole Tip down carry not my favorite. MSRP $158

AlMar SERE 2000, VG-10 not bad, never held it thum stud, linner lock and tip up carry I like. MSRP $189

Thankx for your input guys.

I was in the same boat. I ordered a BM806D2 and a Al Mar SERE 2000. :) The Military was on my list but I dropped it after much reading on these forums. I may get one someday, but I concluded it's similiar to my Spyderco Starmate, which doesn't really enter my EDC rotation. The only difference the Military would offer is s30v instead of 440v, and a different blade style. The BM806D2 is a much more solid knife. With dual steel liners and G-10 handles compared to the Military's G-10 only handles. The Axis lock is much more solid and reliable than the liner lock. You can open and close the Axis lock knives faster and with less effort. I can't make any comments on the Al Mar SERE 2000 yet. I hear it's a solid feeling knife, but some have reported it failing a spine wack test as many liner locks have been known to do.

I'd love to see a Axis lock AFCK with s30v steel. I'm sure that will come along after we all have our D2 versions. :) However I don't have a knife with D2 so I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Advantages to the Military though, from what I hear, are ease of cleaning, and people love the design of the blade with it's flat grind. So depending on what you plan to do with it the Military maybe a great choice. :) If you're doing a lot of slicing tasks and aren't trying to put an excessive amount of force on the knife the Military may serve you well. I will say my Starmate, with a simliar liner lock, does lock up well, probably better than any of my other liner locks.

If it were me and I was just looking for something different so I had choices in the morning I would probably get either the Sere or the Military. You already have one nice BM with the axis lock, so unless you really want to stick with that I would get something different for the sake of variety.

I would probably choose the Military. I've been eyeing that knife for a while and really like it, especially now that it comes in S30V!

I have the SERE and it is a heavy knife. Even though the dimensions are a 3.56" blade and 4.87" handle, it is just a little too big to be carried by everyone. Still, it's my favorite folder.

Well it being to big is not an issue. I find my 710HS to be faire sized and do not mind something abit bigger even.

About time Glockman! :p I can't wait to get my Sere 2000 for Christmas. I'll let you know what I think since you're one of the reasons I decided to go with it. ;)

I think you're going to eventually end up with all three.

All are great knives!

I have to agree about the Sere2000 being a bit too heavy for EDC unless you remove the clip and carry it in a pouch.

Wade,

When you receive your SERE 2000, if you don't like it, send it to me...That way, I'll have 3 of 'em.:D.:D.

GET THE SERE. RUN, DON'T WALK!

Seriously. You will not regret it. I like mine so much, I sold off almost every other tactical folder I own. It is built like a brick sh!thouse, great blade steel, deep carry clip, looks great, works great.

I have owned all of the other knives you mentioned and sold all of them but the Sere. I think the Sere and the 710 would make an excellent edc rotation.

The Sere 2000 sounds like a great knife. The angle I'm approaching the 3 choices from is price. I'm about 2 days away from delivery of a Military that I paid $52.00 for (NIB) on the Bay. That's on the low end because I tracked auctions til I snagged that price, but you can usually get it for between $55 and $70. 4" blade, CPM S30V steel, Spyderco quality...hell of a deal. I checked out the Sere 2000 on the Bay and it's going for between $119 and $139. So there's a very large price difference. Not really apples to apples in that regard.
The Military's supposed to be a pretty rugged knife. But if the Sere 2000 is more so, then maybe it comes down to what your applications would be, and how much you want to spend.

My only problem with the Military is that it has G10 handles (good) but the liner lock is just a small portion of steel on the handle. It doesn't have full steel liners like most knives do. Seams like under pressure the handle could snap if just G10.

I've both the BM806 and the Spyderco Military. Toss up on those two - pick which one you like best. They should be able to do anything you might reasonably ask of a folder.

I can't speak to the BM806. I'm sure it would be great. But I carry the Mili..I've handled a SERE and it (SERE) is a more solid feeling blade but it seems to be much slower in presentation. There's less surface for grabbing and deploying the blade plus the action appeared pretty tight..so I don't think you could gravity whip the SERE out...I could be wrong on this..just my impression. The Mili is very solid..probably the best slicer and you can deploy the thing by looking at ...well perhaps a flick is required...but opening with gloves is easy using either the Spydie-hole or gravity. Don't misunderstand though a SERE is close to the top of my want list..they're all nice. Go with the Military first though.

I just got the ALMAR Nomad and it is SUPERB,It isnt to big nor is it to small,I had the benchmade AFCK in d2 and I think this model is better when it comes to fit and finish.Im not one for "tactical blades" these blades seems more like a outdoorsman type of blade,so I recommend the Almar Nomad.

If pressure is less extreme than Mick Strider with a sledge-hammer and a point to make, maybe. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about G10 snapping.
