Just one question, why did they change the liners from titanium to steel. It makes the knife quite a bit heavier and in my opinion has very little effect in making the knife more rigid. Surely titanium could be considered a more premium material for this type of use?

All the Axis locks have steel liners. Since the liner provides the bearing surface for the steel lock pin to roll on, you don't want it to be titanium, it would gall and wear.
