'80's era John M. Smith Bowie.

the stag indexes straight, and it feels good in either hand. although the sheath is for a right handed user, i would have to say that even though it feels great in the right hand, it feels even better in the left. I will try and get a pic or two looking down on the stag.

I was going to just re-sell this one as im in search of a little later one, but the more I handle it the more it wants to stay with me.

Here's a few I've saved pictures of:
First two and last one are knives I own.
Third pic is Anthony's.
Fourth one is owned by CobraChris.

I have a couple more of his knives but weather is not nice here right now and I can't seem to upload the photos I do have

I love that stag handled bowie Michael posted. It doesn't get any better than that; clean lines and pointy. It's a shame he stopped making knives.

Michael thanks for posting those, I had them all but the Persian damascus piece. I really want to see pics of your early stag Bowie, even if you just email them to me. A very nice fellow from France just emailed some scans of his old brochure from John, I will try and post the pics in the next few days.

Michael that's a very nice Inner City you have. It seems the later blades like mine had a longer clip with more of a curve to it. I would like to have one of those earlier ones to add to the family.

Just to let everyone know John Smith has a website: knivesandroses.com
It has a lot of his metal artwork as well as some axes and knives, but no bowies unfortunately. There is also a huge Damascus Dagger of his on Robertson's website.

If the brochure has a pic of one of the lightweight single guard Inner City knives, post it if you can!!!:D

There was another knife John made called the Lightnin' Rod which had a single guard and an even longer clip. I had a picture of a beautiful damascus one years ago that John gave me.

Joe, it is a fairly early brochure that predates the "inner city", I will try and post some pics from it this weekend.

Here are a few more photos, first 2 are scans from one of Johns early brochures. The second 2 are knives that i missed out on buying, didnt see them till it was too late!

I have'nt read anything on John Smith since Fighting Knives Magazine. That is a great example of his work you have there, congrats!

This is the first handmade knife I ever bought. I got it from the Nordic Knives catalog back in about 1991. I talked to John about it and he told me it was made in '80. W2 and black micarta. Handle is curved for right handed grip. Feather texturing on the grip, and the usual jigging on the guard. 12 in. overall. Blade 7 in.
