Got my 2nd GEC today in the mail, 82 Dixie stockman. It’s larger than I was expecting. I’m going to have to use this one I think.

Please share! It’s a great knife. Slicey, great blade combo. Only thing wrong is it’s round ends. I had glenbad remedy that for me....lol

I'm curious as to why you prefer squared bolsters... is it purely aesthetics? The overall appearance? My thoughts on bolsters, and especially when the knife is a more robust size, is that rounded is more hand and pocket friendly. Aesthetically, I like rounded bolsters more, as well, but it's primarily for comfort, in carry and use.
you say to-may-to, I say to-mah-to.....
edit: your modified knife is very classy looking, though....![]()
Looks great! That's why Glenn is a bad man!Sure thing, Charlie! I was gonna post when I got home today, but I went and found them for y’all.
I will say they are more squared in person than the photos. The light reflection makes them seem like the corners are more rounded than they are. @glennbad really got it right!

Well, in my experience with exactly ONE dixie stockman, I didn't find anything lackluster about the snap.I've always liked the concept of a stubby wharncliffe in lieu of a sheepsfoot in a stockman frame ... only thing thats prevented me from pulling the trigger is I've read quite a few reports that the 82 has lackluster snap ... I'd be curious on how this run shapes up in terms of snap ... thx
FWIW, I can still appreciate a nice round end!
Yes.... I have been looking for a good user possum skinner. I think I would really like that blade combination for a "large" knife. I had thought I was going to go for a bull moose, but in reality the wharncliffe combined with a slender clip would suit me "mo' better".I think the 82 is one of the better GEC's I've had, though I prefer the 2-bladed version. The 81 and 82 GEC's are my favorite. The lack of a half-stop is a bonus for me. I wish the possum skinner came in some different handle materials.
The blade thinness is a big plus.

That size knife is very comfortable in hand... just sort of pushes the limit for pocket carry, for me. A slim belt sheath is not out of the question, though.. might be the perfect solution.
dang it.... now you've done it. I didn't realize it was a single spring. Now I gotta go buy one.....I really like the bull moose but I do wish it had gone with the wharncliffe/clip combo. I like the 2 fullsized blades a little more than the possum skinner. The possum skinner is really thin as it's a single springe, instead of the double spring of the bull moose. I feel like the possum skinner carries like a single blade trapper, but with two-blades.

edit: to quote Doc Holliday.... "that's JUST my game...."
edit: anybody have one for sale?![]()
