#83 Mishap: Lemons to Lemonade?

I would appreciate any additional feedback people have on the KO Work Sharp. I was thinking of getting one for reprofiling and now I'm having second thoughts.

First off: That's a great save. I'm not a recurve guy, but you did very well in the repair. I like it a lot!!!

I have WSKOE and I like it. It's fun to play with but it has the potential to do a lot of damage. I ruined (rookie mistake) then repaired (after I ruined a few others and learned what to do) a good knife. It comes with a sharpening guide (what belt, number of passes) that's pretty accurate. And it comes with a DVD instructional video. I use it on my fixed blades a lot (you know, more metal, easier to fix if you mess up).

Truth be told I'm actually scared to use it on my folders because of what can happen (like above). Those belts can just tear some metal up so fast. The KO system is designed to put a convex edge so be aware.

Oh, I want add: the best tip I have for people who want to get a work sharp is to PRACTICE a lot on some cheap crappy knives first until you get the hang of it. I did not do this and the result was what I typed above. You can minimize mistakes on good blades by doing all your screwing up on bad blades. Good luck!!!

Nice save Andrew. I use mostly rods these days but prefer a bench stone.

Getting old and my hands aren't as steady as they should be for working around belts and sharp edges.
