Is anyone using either of these steels currently or previously? Just wondered about them after seeing a video on Youtube of a smith testing a 9260 blade on a steel pipe.

9260 is similar to 5160 but has silicon. It was one of the steels that Bill Moran used and is an excellent steel to forge blades from. I can't help you with 8670M, no experience with it.

9260 is like 5160 with no chromium and silicon added. Tough steel but personally not enough carbon for my blades.

8670 is like L6 but with a lot less nickel. Good steel, I passed my JS test with it and thinking it was L6.

Both of these steels will make a super tough blades but not the best for edge holding.
