88 knivesrus question

I always wondered that myself, I have not ordered from them myself but I often check out their website for new items...I always saw that option, and had the same question...

I personally haven't, but that's because I avoid doing buisness with them. They sell knives that are very blatant ripoffs of decent quality balisongs (see here and here (second one is a Terry Guinn Ring Fighter without the ring). There are plenty of others, but I don't feel like linking. They do this knowledgably and justh hope that no one notices. There have been at least two other instances of things that this.

Edit- for those who don't recognize it, the first is a "razor blade" copy of a Darrel Ralph Venturi with dragon handles.

Exactly. 888 does not have a good reputation in the Balisong Community. The owner has posted here in the past and has been irrepentent about the ripoffs. His attitude has basically been that if he's making money off of it, then it's good. He has basically said that he doesn't know or care anything about balisongs and he's just in this for the money. And he's also been quite a jerk in general here. You have to ask yourself if you want to do business with someone who has that approach to business and to life in general.

Actually, he's treated me very well in the past with several of my requests- though not Balisong related in any way. I balked at his serrations because they were the wrong pattern for me. Indeed, there's only one right serration for me and it can only be laser cut and is impossible to sharpen anyway. The owner makes no bones about being in it for the money- but no more or less so than say Cold Steel is. The business of 'blatant rip-offs' is sort of strange. 90% of all goods are blatant rip-offs of 10% Originals anyway. It's up to the customer to do the homework- as usual.

I don't buy Cold Steel or Gerber either.

The ripoffs are ripoffs done without permission, credit, or payment. After something has been done for a long time, it's generally accepted that it's free game. However, when something like the Ring Fighter comes out, and a month later you've got them up for $15, that's design theft. It's even worse when people are knowledgably selling them.

My dad owns a small business- I understand that money needs to be made. However, I also understand that part of good business is integrity, and 888knivesrus has historically, and continues to run short on that quality. There are too many manufacturers, makers, and dealers out there who take pride in doing good, honest business for me to deal with those who don't. Though I will agree that it is up to us to do our homework, because not every dealer will be up to the golden standard set by those that can be found here on BladeForums.

Most of the ripoffs are POS anyway. I had a tachyon ripoff before I even knew about the real thing, and it was horrible.
