Well I've been carrying my S30V Native for a couple years now... Sun, rain, snow or the occasional canoe trip!

...But I just threw a Tenacious on order and I'm curious if it will be a immune to the effects of weather and water as my Native has been? Don't get me wrong, I tend to keep my pivots lubed, clean and edges sharp; but there is always that one week where you tip the canoe, get caught in a monsoon and then have to hike through the mud. Should I expect to remain as worry free as S30V has me now?

I have a benchmade mini pika II with 8cr13mov steel that I have been carrying for a while (non abusive beater). I did notice some rust at the tang near the pivot a few times, but it just rubbed off with a rag when I finally got around to cleaning it. I'd say that corrosion shouldn't be a problem with an occasional oiling and cleaning.

I took my Caracara to Venezuela for a jungle trip, snorkelling in the sea and i cut lots of fruit whit it. sometimes i wiped the blade clean or cleaned it with some water after use. Corrosion spots on the blade where visible and back at home it was also visible that the liners had some surface rust. After some steelwool, wd40 and sharpening it was like new.

So yes 8CR13MOV will rust, so will most other blade steel if it doesn’t get cleaned.

I EDC'd my Meadowlark for 4 months - there were no signs of any corrosions. Nowadays I carried a Tenacious for 2 months in my front pocket (above 30 C ) - no problems. One day even I carried it into a thermal bath (it were all day in my trunks' pocket :D) - corrosion=nope.
