8cr13mov Spyderco vs. Kershaw.

Can anyone provide evidence that the two companies use different manufacturers in China? One post claimed that Kershaw maintains their own facility. I've read the Benchmade contracts Sanrenmu's facility. Whom does Spyderco use? It is entirely possible that the knives are all made by the same exact people in the same facility...?

What kind of evidence do you want? Research it here on BF. Kershaw subforum can still be searched. You can find posts from their mods that they have their own facility in China. Likewise you can search the Spyderco forum for Sal's comments on who they use there.

I take them for their word but you don't have to. Kershaws and Spydercos both made in the same facility/building? Possible? Anything is, but you will need to provide evidence.

I'm a huge fan of Kershaw and they way the do 8cr13mov. Holds and edge well enough while being easy to sharpen. Neither company is going to make something that isn't worth the money.

Spyderco uses Sanrenmu...

Thank you  I suspected as much, given the direct copies available in China. Do you have a quote from Sal or Sanrenmu that you can link?

LOL, why do you think I asked for evidence? ;) I wasn't making an accusation, I was asking for evidence that I do not possess. I didn't spend much time in the KAI subforum so never came across information on their Chinese manufacturer. A linked quote from KAI or the Chinese manufacturer would suffice for me. I honestly would NOT expect these companies to use the same facility as the Chinese Kershaws I've owned/handled did NOT possess the same level of F&F I've found in Chinese BM & Spyderco knives, but the Kershaws were also less expensive and the others may have been over-priced. *shrug*

Anyway, my agreement goes with the above posts to the effect that 8Cr13MoV probably doesn't vary much between knife companies, whereas blade geometry and sharpening would be far more noticeable anyway.

Merry Christmas!!!

I think the comment that blade geometry is the main difference is correct, although Sal being fanatical about steel quality wouldn't surprise me.

The Tenacious is a thin slicer, and if you use a knife for that it'll probably be the better choice. If you use a knife as a pry bar get the Cryo, or a $10 small pry bar. I'm quite partial to the FFG myself.

Kershaw has really put out allot of crappy sub $40 dollar beadblast BS... It's really turned me off of the brand.
