I just purchased a Spyderco Tenacious and I am contimplating a paramilitary, is the difference in these two steels woth the 2X price difference?

IMO yes. The edge retention is much better on S30, also S30v keeps a really good working edge for even longer then it's very keen edge which I also like. There are also many other improvements in lock, ergos, etc. hope you make a good choice:)

I like 8Cr well enough, but I like S30V much, much more. S30V will retain and edge much longer, be more rust resistant but take longer to sharpen (in general).

I was in the same spot and couldn't see myself spending 2X or 3X. The PM2 (my experience) is 3X to 4X the knife.

Wow!, Is there tht much difference? Is there another folder in the 100-120 price range that would be compareable? Im loking at the Cabeas D2 Griptilian as well

D2 is more prone to corrosion than the other two steels, and not any more wear resistant than S30V at comparable hardness.

Maybe Ford/Mercedes is going a bit too far... S30V is a lot better, keeps an edge, only surface rust after extended immersion in the sea, a bitch to sharpen, but after the first proper sharpening easily maintained. It is a powder steel made in US, much purer than Chinese made 8CR13...
Now CR813, is decent CHEAP stainless steel... not holding an edge very good, softer, and much more rust prone. Not too hard to sharpen.

Comparing PM2 with Tenacious is a bit more in the Ford/Mercedes mould...

It's not just the steels, it's the total package. The para 2 is IMHO, twice or three times the knife that the tenacious is. Better G10, better steel, better lock(arguably), better ergos for me, and finally carries better.

While the Para 2 is well worth more than its ~$100 price tag (it's one of my favorite EDC's), if you wish to try S30V at a less expensive price, you might want to check out the Buck Vantage Pro or the Spyderco Native. Just another option.

I agree. Two different class/level of knives. The PM2 is worth the upgrade and a great knife to have in any collection.

Truff!!!

Bought a Tenacious, had to sharpen it a few times after using it ti cut boxes, tape and fruit. A couple months later I bought a Military. After owning the Military for 6 weeks I gave the Tenacious away.

There is no fair comparrison of the two steels.

I like my Tenacious - it's a good, "starter knife," so to speak. It's the knife that I recommend to people who first want to get into knives (along with the Kershaw Skyline). However, the Para 2 is in a completely different class. The S30V is much better, and I prefer the compression lock, as well. Can't go wrong with the Para 2.

there is no comparison between 8cr13mov and s30v two totally different steels, one is good for edc and menial tasks and the other is the best overall steel for a numerous amount of tasks such as edc, light duty heavy duty etc

They'll hold a fine edge for about the same amount of time, but the S30V will retain a good working edge after use that would make a Tenacious dull as a butter knife.
