8Cr13MoV What is it and whats your opinions on it?

nice to hear from a person on the front lines.my understanding is that Swedish iron ore has less contaminates[ sulfur & phosphorus] than other iron ores commonly found elsewhere.i heard early on the english used swed.steel in their razors.also Bo randall used swedish 01 to forge his blades.swed. 01 being superior to amer. 01.would appreciate your input.

Hi Dennis,
What you say is true but in this case it's actually irrelevant. Most mills today, all who make precision steels for demanding applications (purity wise) are recycled mills. This is because sorted recycled steel is of higher quality than ore. Might sound backwards but it's true. Also it's a more expensive raw material.

Purity is achieved in the production process. Eliminating impurities and making a homogenous structure is quite difficult.

Please remember though that I comment on steel, not blades. Sometimes the quality i see does not show itself in the finished blade due to heat treat, grinds and so forth.

thanks for the new to me info.much of my stuff is really dated since i'm 70yrs. old. try to stay abreast but i lag in many areas.thank you again.
