9" Disk Grinder Disk Question

Greetings,
The logical solution would be to purchas a 9" disk grinder disk threw Rick at Beaumount Metal Works. However, since that option is not available for Canadians I purchased it threw Busy Bee Tools for $25.00 CND. It is not as thick as Beaumount's disk hence I decided to research if there is a local supplier that would cut a 9" circle in tempered glass.

Would there be any benefit having a 9" disk tempered glass circle silicone onto a disk? I thought I would sandwich the glass/silicon/aluminum disk in the mill so the glass is parallel to the aluminum. What recommended thickness?

Thoughts?

Dennis

Dennis, I picked up a set of 8" disc's many years ago and set mine up with a piece of patricle board then a piece of Micarta. The wood acts to deaden some of the noise and cuts some of the vibration and the Micarta works well in applying and removing the sandpaper. The Micarta can also be beveled if you desire. I hope this helps. Dave:)

Dennis, you know I spent 15 years as a Ranger - so I spend a lot of time thinking "what if?"......

My question then is - What if it overheats - the glue lets go and it shatters while spinning a million RPM?

The pyroceram on a flat platen scares me enough. The disc brings to mind James Bond's "Odd Jobs" with the throwing hat? - or maybe a 12 guage fletchette round.

(Got the youngsters scratching their head now don't we.) :D

Rob!

Well, as long as you are not standing off to the side and working clearly in front, I doubt you would get hit directly with said mentioned fletchettes. you would wear some of it, but not as if you were on the side. Your fingers would take a beating, maybe even removal. More incentive to wear work gloves!!:D I have had R/C planes throw props when standing on the side, or starting your plane by holding the front. Now that's scary. Never got poked though. Seen pictures.  R/C helicpters are even worse. One dude died. He took a main rotor blade to the head spinning @ 2000rpm.
