Hello,

Does anyone know where I can buy a 9" flat steel disc for a disc grinder? The only two places that I was aware of who sold them (Texas Knifemaker's Supply and K&G) are both out of stock and are not sure if/when they will get more.

Thanks!

Not sure Paul. Can I ask why not Aluminum? Not sure what the difference would be?

By the way, I am so glad to see you back.

I have Beaumont's aluminum disc (actually 2 of them...one flat, one beveled). It works great.

I tried in vain to get one from RW Wilson. After about 40 phone calls and messages I gave up!

I don't have any personal experience, but I read that the steel ones are much more durable and that the aluminum ones tend to get dinged up around the edges with use. Probably doesn't really matter all that much, but would like to find a steel one if possible.

I hear you. I have one ding in the edge of mine, but it is not on the flat, but rather on the side of the disc. Has not caused me any trouble.

RW is a good friend but his secretary sucks. He is on the road doing shows 250 plus days a year so hes not at home to answer the phones. His steel disk are very good. I would give him a call here is his cell # 304-670-5643

The Nielsen system is nice, but just looking for a plain old flat steel disc right now. I may have to go with Al.

I wanted the same thing and it was recommended to get the steel disc from Knife and Gun Supply. The used t0 sell it for $80, but it is no longer available on their site by itself. You can buy the work rest and disc for $300. I'm considering it, but have not decided. You might want to call them and see if they will sell the disc individually.

Might want to see if there is a fab shop in the area that will do it for you, assuming you can't get it for less than 300 bucks.

They do just sell the steel disc. Whoever makes it for them didn't do a very good job in my opinion. I'm sending mine back.

I called K&G before posting this, and was told they are out of steel disks and now have an Al one. Paraphrasing and reading between the lines, it sounds like they are having trouble finding a supplier to make more steel ones and/or it's too expensive to make more. Texas Knife Supply told me they are 'looking for a supplier to make them' and it probably wouldn't happen anytime soon.

What is wrong with it JB? Maybe I will buy it from you ;)

You can go here and get a 9" cast iron disk (part #21) for $33.25

That looks interesting, but I think that's for the disk only and looks like some other parts would be needed. Also, is it for a keyed 5/8" motor shaft?
