907 Slicing tests

You found the bacon angle , well played Sir !

Thank you, my good man. All posts are better with bacon in them.

In fact....I wouldn't mind seeing somebody slice a slab of bacon in a knife test video. Maybe with a Old Hickory or a Green River. Old timey!

Slicing bacon should be the standard cut test .

Come on, no one can resist cutting packing peanuts, guys. Seriously. But also, I gotta say, cliche as it may be, I think ripe tomatoes are the gold standard for slicing, although these guys with their Bacon talk have got me second guessing. I'm assuming raw bacon, correct?

Bump this to the top.

Major props to someone so eager to learn better ways to share his enthusiasm for knife use/collecting!

Cut anything you want and on any surface you want. I did a video once where I was gauging relative sharpness in pounds of cutting force and a few of the cuts terminated with the edge slamming into the steel apparatus I created to hold the substrate. It got some people all up in a twist. It is my knife, and my edge...best of all, I could fix the damage.

Some of the suggestions are pretty good. If you want to make more demos...I would suggest using something everyone has access to and is familiar with (plastic bottles, pine 2x4s, cardboard from a specific source (i.e. pizza delivery boxes)). Be careful with cardboard though, food grade and industrial grade can be very different. Tomatoes are great for a test cut after a hard cut.

FireAnt, the more you use, the more you will learn. Keep it up!

Nice job kid. I saw all th umm's but at least you're using your knife - enjoy!

My "umm" was more of a "is this your vid?" kind of thing.

One thing I can see is that it looks like you are having to cut in a very awkward position when doing the cardboard test. Maybe setting the camera in a position that allows you to cut in a more natural form would help a little.

I'm no good at making videos, so don't feel bad. Yours are better than mine! :D

Ummm.....

Just Kidding! :D

Fireant, enjoy using your knife and watch yer fingers where you are cutting stuff. Saves on band-aids and trips to the hospital. (speaking from experience:foot:) Carrot batoning rocks btw; try asparagus next time if you want a real challenge.

Dogs - even mad dogs - fight, and the losing dog, if he can, runs away. But no wolf runs. For a wolf wins every fight but one, and in that one he dies. - Gordon R. Dickson

Hello fellow Gordon Dickson fan. From one of the Dorsai short stories IIRC. The title escapes me but wasn't it the one where Greame got shot just to kill a crime boss?
