Well I was just effectively talked out of preordering the Benchmade micro Pocket Rocket, but it seems sad to just leave that $10 Knifecenter gift card sitting in my account. I’ve been eyeing the 940-1 for a while, and it seems to have positive reviews on Knifecenter and BladeHQ.

Would you recommend this knife? I currently carry a ZT 0393 and love it. Thanks.

Your BF username says nay ;)

But seriously BM 940 is little big knife with good quality. I only tried 940-1501. It is super light and the blade is actually pretty long given its weight. The blade is thicker than I would want, making it not necessarily a better slicer among knives with similar weight. I know 940-1 is with s90v steel and cf scales and liked by many but at $268 I am not going to buy it.

I just got one yesterday, and it's fantastic: incredibly light, unobtrusive despite being all blade, excellent fit and finish (for example, the inside and outside edges of the scales are chamfered).

I think MAP is somewhat high, particularly compared to a ZT with similar materials, but the design is a masterpiece and the execution is splendid.

On questions of buying a 940 or not I'm always going to be in the "do it!" camp. It's a great design. It disappears into your pocket but when you need it you've suddenly got plenty of knife in your hand (sort of the opposite of the PM2, which takes up your whole pocket but then when you open it is mostly handle).

I've been carrying this version in my rotation lately:

Nay. I had one (carbon fiber handled version). I wanted to like it.... had some noticeable blade flex and I could not get over the long, slender proportions of it. I went to the contego after I sold the 940. The 810 is like the pendulum swung the other way and was overkill in every way that the 940 was lacking.

If you want stout, beefy, and vault-like, depending on your ZT expectations, it may disappoint.

Yes, I would recommend it.

I've had numerous 940 variants over the years and finally settled on the 940-1501 in 20cv. This time, it won't be flipped for something else.

It's my favorite EDC carry folder, has excellent F&F, cuts what I need it to cut, and then disappears back into my pocket.

Get one.

Same here..excellent design but pricey. My perceived value for the 940 lies around $50 south their MAP, eventhough i only own the G10 version (from secondary market).

That's a great comparison, and nicely put.

If G10 & S30v work for you check the 940-2. It's weightless (2.6) and less expensive. It does all that most ever need. It' just a bit too sensible and practical. Not as much fun to hold or play with as some others.

The version I posted above, the 940-1701, is also 20cv, incidentally.

It turns out that G10 + upgraded steel + original blade shape is my favorite setup. The rounded G10 is very comfortable in use, and the upgraded steel is a bonus.

I would say give it a shot if you like how it looks. I personally have never liked the design or blade shape. Personal aesthetics. Definitely a well liked choice here though!

Do it!
It makes an excellent gentlman carry and weighs practically nothing. I had someone thin the edge and do a full mirror. That knife was scary sharp after.
Need to resharpen it.

I think everyone should at least try a 940. The -1 is my favorite EDC folder. Other good versions out there too.
Here’s a pic in case you forgot what it looks like. :D

It's basically the perfect "modern" pocket knife in my estimation.

- The CF and stonewashed blade makes for a handsome knife which can function reasonably well as a "gents" folder.

- The shape and grind of the blade allow it to stand up to hard use while still cutting very well.

- S90V is extremely stain resistant and holds an edge forever.

- It's a large knife that feels very small.

- It weighs almost nothing.

- Benchmade's warranty is fantastic.

Really the best of all worlds rolled up into a single knife. I sold one recently to fund a project while I'm doing my two knife challenge. I'll certainly be picking up another when I'm done.

Nice knife, but its should MSRP at $70. Benchmade has undertaken a premium pricing strategery that intentionally over-charges the consumer in the hope that consumers characterize Benchmade knives as "premium". And the strategery works. Look at the Griptilian. Its a standard folding knife with a plastic handle, and they get $90 for those suckers. So good for them for sticking it to the consumer. It certainly works for Benchmade. But it does not work for the consumer.

If ZT is your point of comparison I’d that the ZT 0450 is a good one to think of in relation to the 940-1. Very similar in size and function.

If you find the 0450 too small, I think there’s a good chance you’ll find the 940-1 too small as well. If on the other hand you like the size of the 0450, I think you’ll love the 940-1.
