940-2 vs. PM2/Para3

Which do you find yourself using most?

Honestly they all get a turn in my 18 or so edc rotation. Each get about a day or two before rotation. You can honestly buy anyone of them and will most likely have no regrets.
940 for the best slim carry.
Pm2 good size, awesome ergo edc.
Para3 same as pm2 in smaller package.

Agree with all that.

Had a 940-1 and a PM2. Now I only have the PM2.

The fit and finish of the Benchmade was sub-par and the pricing was about twice what it should have been.

Between the PM2 and the 940-2 the PM2 wins on value, utility, and build quality. The only thing good about the 940 is that it's slim in the pocket.

If your a long term user, the 940-2 is best value, free service for life and a new blade for $25 after you sharpen it away in 10 years from lots of use.

I have multiples of both.. one of my 940s are with me the majority of the time. Lately it's either one of my 940s, or a mini stryker. Pm2 is a beefier knife that I really don't have a use for, my gayle bradley took its place as a heavier duty knife. With your two choices, you are comparing apples to oranges. There is no best answer the way you have asked it. Look at how it will be used, think of how likely you are to need customer support or repair down the road, then make a choice. They are both great depending on what you use them for.

People complain about the blade to handle ratio on the pm2, it may just be the pic but the blade on that para3 looks ridiculously tiny compared to the handle.

Never really understood the blade to handle ratio thing. It doesn't take anything away from the PM2. Great knife at a great price.
I have multiples of both and really couldn't choose between the 2. They are both amazing knives!
Also, I have 5 94x. Every one came out of the box almost perfectly.....nothing's perfect. Centered, smooth, tight lock up.......etc.
You all know the correct answer.......get both!! You will eventually anyway!!
Check the Exchange daily and you'll find a great deal on either one.
Good luck!!

I own them all and diff versions of 940 and PM2...940 slimmer lighter carry, good slicer/cutter. PM2 bigger and wider carry and cutter...PM3 falls between the 940 and PM2 imo but I haven't owned it long enough to gauge real use yet. Wearing shorts and hotter months, I carry my 940's more...PM3 may find it's way into that role as well.

I liked my 940 but ended up selling it. I don't like metal handles and that's all that was available then. I also found the 940 handle to be too narrow for my taste. I like a handle that's thicker and wider than the 940 is. But the knife itself was fine, just didn't work for me so I sold it. The PM 2 is what I carry now and for the last few years when I carry a manual folder. It's a good carry and an excellent user for my everyday needs.

"Everyday" to me means whatever might come up during the day. The PM 2 works well for doing a range of cutting in different settings. I've used Paras amd Militaries in a warehouse, in the woods, and around my house for 10 years or more and they've always delivered. Never had an issue either. Easy to use, easy to maintain, easy to sharpen. And I've never had an issud with a blade tip. They're plenty strong for cutting or piercing, especially in newer steels like M4 or Elmax.

I'd choose the PM 2 first. If that doesn't work for some reason, figure out what you don't like about it and see if the 940 will fill the need.

I ended up buying the para 3. Blade HQ got it in stock today and I couldn't pass it up. I decided against the pm2 because of size and the benchmade I decided was a bit too expensive compared to what I get with the para 3. Plus I have a griptilian so if I feel compulsive axis lock playing it's taken care of hahahaha. Thanks for all of your input

You will love the Para3. Spyderco really has built one of the most ergonomic and flat out great cutters in the PM2/Para3 platform. You will also love the simple action of the compression lock. The knife really is designed to be a perfect EDC. Hope you enjoy it!

Congrats OP. I think you will be happy with the Para3. I've had mine with me pretty much since it was delivered. Great for EDC purposes.

Hello all, just received my Para3 in the mail. It's awesome, I love the size, there's no play, and it's centered. I am really excited about it. Only gripe is that its a bit stiff and I cannot do the spydie flick or quick thumb opening, does anyone know how long it will take to break in? Thanks, and if you are reading this, wondering if you should get one, yes just do it.

I'm guessing about 10-20 flicks or add a little oil to the pivot. One I handled seemed a little dry out of the box. At least that's what I thought of one I had when it arrived.

If it's not right after 50-100 flicks maybe turn the pivot screw 1/16 - 1/8 turn to free it a bit. Should drop free when you press the compression lock tab.
