940 Pivot screw problem

I know this is an old thread, but I have the same issue.

Just bought a new 940-1501 and after a day and a half noticed that the blade was rattling inside the frame. The pivot screw is soft/loose enough that I can twist it back in with just my finger. I can also twist it enough with just my finger to where the blade doesn't swing free anymore.

Is this normal? Seems like more slop than just an issue for locktite. Also, it seems really sensitive when just a tiny twist with the finger can take it from rattling to stiff locked up.

Just read this thread again and follow the info. All my knives (except a Positron) have plumber's tape on the pivot screw.

I've had my 940 since 2004. I hated it at first but the action was smooth so I bought it. It grew on my fast and that knife was my number one!! I have lost it several times and it has always came back to me. One time it was lost for 2 yrs. I never had an issue with the pivot screw until just 1 yr ago. It is missing, don't know when or how...so I need to send it in but havent yet. When I do though...I will put up the Griptillian and carry the 940 again. The action of the knife is just a real pleasure to use..Instead of clicking pens for fun, I would open and close my 940. One of the other buying points was...I have knives close on my hands before...both liner locks and lockbacks. Never had an issue with Axis lock and alway trusted it. Love it and I also love my Apparition 670 too

Except that some people like the action loose and fast and some like it on the other end of the spectrum. Price point has absolutely zero to do with it. I use loctite on every adjustable pivot knife I own, Spyderco, ZT, CR, etc. I adjust it to where I like it, not where the guy at the factory likes it, and the apply thread locker.

A lot of belly aching about nothing in this thread. Lots of misinformation as well. Don't believe everything you see on YouTube.

if give benchmade a call i’m sure they’ll send you a new pivot screw without having to send your knife in. as long as it’s just the male end you’re missing. i don’t think they’ll send out a full pivot, just the screw

I own a 940 ,as does my grandson. The pivot does tend to loosen, but its a easy fix . I used a tiny little of lock tight to fix the boy's. Mine i tend to run loose . As far as it being an old design past its prime ,not really .
Its a great edc and the steel is fine . I rarely carry it ,but its ready to go .

Hi All,

New to Benchmade & forum. Bought 2 940's a few weeks ago because couldn't decide on alum or G10. Been playing & flicking no closer, like them both prolly keep both. Should I remove pivot screw and locktite, premptive strike, or just monitor?

Funny thing, did 30 yrs as a FF in CT with one knife. That was a Spydie Endura SE bought early 90's. In my pocket everyday day on & off duty.
Retired now & living in southern ME. I had to leave my spydie in FL didn't want TSA to grab it. What no knife!, felt naked. Been buying knives like crazy spydies & benchmades. Crazy, makes no sense but I sure have a knife smile on my face.

For what it's worth. A little loctite did the trick on mine.

It was amazingly loose, but no problem any more.

The real issue is the Loctite not setting proper. Is that the pivot and screw maybe contaminated with oil and crud.Cleaning out the dirty and wipe the threads with alcohol or solvent and re-apply.Warning it might hold too well - so no red Loctite.
