940 vs 810

I have many Benchmades in my collection but my 940 has been my favorite EDC for the last 2 years, to anybody who hasn't carried a 940 that is where all the design features come in. Its lightweight, I don't like a folder so heavy I actually notice its weight pulling at my pocket, it should be there but not noticed. The slim profile originally turned me off, it didn't look strong which is very wrong, the knife carries a surprisingly large blade and functional, you would be amazed how well it preps food when out camping. There are actually a few people making custom scales for the 940 since it is so popular which lets you get G10 and standoffs which is a very "custom" look. The last bragging point of the 940 and many Benchmades is the Axis lock which I believe is one of the strongest locks in the entire knife industry, most custom knives you could by in the $100s-$1000s range would not have a lock as strong as the Axis, watch some of the videos from Benchmade with the destruction tests. I believe the 940,943,and 940-1 (I HAVE #32) are probably the best EDC knives in Benchmades line. The 810 is good looking, great steel, probably to big to comfortably EDC daily, but a true workhorse of folders if you are "really" working it that hard, but if thats the case you may consider a small-mid size fixed blade if the strength is truly needed.

I now have both the 940-1 & the 810. For me, they will each serve a different purpose. The difference in size and weight make the 940-1 a better carry, but the 810 is a better heavy duty knife. I've been carrying the 940-1 along with a ZT0770CF & my Manix 2 S110V more than any other knives right now. They all are light with nice slicing blades. Very happy with all 3.

And the 810 - wow. Great looking, substantial, and a fine working knife.
