I'm definitely interested in purchasing a 940 but there are others that grab my attention . One is the spyderco Gb2 and the other is the military . Anyone think the 940 is superior to these two if not all edc folders ?

You've just chosen three very different class of knives there, and they are not really comparable.

Military - Big knife, epic cutter, great large EDC as it carrys light in pocket, not sheeple friendly at all.

940 - Medium/small knife, carries very well in any pocket, heaps of blade 1:1 handle blade ratio in small package, friendlier than the Millie but still wouldn't wip it out. Tougher than it's weight suggests. Just a classic, classy and capable EDC.

GB2 - Medium sized, very tough, not a very stainless steel, purpose built cutter/work knife with good edge retention, carries well, not super sheeple friendly either, but not many knives are unless they are SAK's.

All are amazing knives if you get lucky with fit and finish. They all fill different roles tho, the 940 and GB2 are more EDC if you like small/medium. The Millie is one of the best cutters on the market but it's a very large EDC. Pick what fits your needs/style.

None are better or worse than the others. All of them are excellent knives and you can't go wrong with any of them.

For the record, the axis lock on the 940 is fantastic.

These are my favorite EDCs. For me the 940-1 wins as all time favorite because of size in pocket and weight. I rarely if ever need anything larger.

If you told me that I could only keep one, the GB2 wins. The main reason is that I have large hands and the GB2 just fits better. The two knives actually feel similar in hand except for the size difference. For prolonged cutting, GB2 wins. Value(if that matters), GB2 wins big.

Also, the GB2 seems, to me, a natural progression from the 940 if you want something a little larger.

At some point you'll obviously want to try both.

Have fun choosing:)

Just buy both. Your going to eventually anyway. If you vastly prefer one over the other then sell the other one. I've done that before.

For EDC I give my preference to the 940-1 due to its lift weight and to the small room it takes in your pocket

Do you already have a knife with the axis lock?

Also theses two knives are not easily compared.

You should be thinking gb2 vs bm 810.

But either way my 940-1 is my favorite knife.

Had both at one time. Didn't keep either for different reasons, but to me the GB is the better looking by far, but what it came down to for me was the lock. The GB is a liner lock, and while I have nothing against liners, the way Gayle did this one I do not like at all. He put no relief in the presentation side of knife for easy access to the liner so you have to squeeze your thumb in there to get to the liner to close. Hated it. I am kind of neurotic about opening and closing my knives and the GB killed my thumb after about 10x. The 940 on the other hand was no issue. Could play with that one all day with no discomfort. The reason I got rid of it was I got the green aluminum one and the handle marked up just looking at it. Bugged the shot out of me. I need to try another 940 and that 940-1501 is calling my name.

Nice score, sfrigon1. Following the decision making process is always a good read on BladeForums ;)
