Necro blast from the past! Weird seeing stuff I said so long ago. I thought 8Cr was hard to sharpen. And I just did 20CV 2 nights ago and thought it was super easy.
To add a little, 9Cr is a great steel when treated correctly. Little better edge retention than AUS-8, a little worse than properly treated 440C. About equal to Spyderco VG-10, possibly a little worse.
AUS-10 also varies from AUS-8, in that it has a slightly different composition and more carbon. The results are that compared AUS-10 has higher edge retention, but lower toughness and corrosion resistance, and is a little more difficult to sharpen. Well balanced steel.
