9mm, 5.56, .223 non gouge pricing anywhere?

How is pricing looking in other parts of the country. Around NJ averages are about

20 for a 50ct of 9mm
and 8.00 for 20ct of 223 or 5.56

Define "gouge"

Most ammo manuf. took a price increase for 2013 and the prices you were used to are long gone, others stayed the same but are harder to get.

Gouge would be 20 percent or more over pricing noted above. Sorry I should have fessed up. Had been hoarding ammo for quite some time and hadn't gone to the range much last year or this that is until recently and I tracked back ammo pricing to when everyone was hoarding at the same time and was for sticker shock. Seems to have come down a bit but is this the new normal I guess?

Most of the stuff I saw at the last gun show here in So Cal was around .30 to .36 cents per bullet. You should try reloading, It'll bring your costs down to around .17 cents per bullet. You don't have to reload for every single time but it's good to have options. Powder and primer are readily available. I use a single stage press and can load up around 100 or so in an hour (assuming they are already tumbled.

At gun shows here you can get a case of 5.56 55gr PMC Bronze for $8-$9/box or $400/case and it's good/clean/consistent ammo not like Tula or Wolf.

That seems right about in line with local NJ prices. I guess this is the new normal its a little off from 2011 prices but I think I can deal.

It's only hoarding if you don't have the intention of using it or a pile beyond your means.

Unfortunately, I work in a damn gun store and hear that word at least 50 times a day.

I tell people that I once had a 22 inventory of 15k rounds, and they automatically think hoarder. While I shoot about 12k rounds of 22 a year (well, before this crap). I would have had more if Federal would produce the 745s the way they did and the shooting didn't happen and I wouldn't have had a pile of bills fall on me at once

Only reason I have the 9mm, 5.56, .45 acp inventory I do is because even working at a store and having first dibs on items, I still don't know when we're getting powder, ammo, primers, etc. in. Plus the cost of replacing materials would cut into limited budget per pile of bills comment above.

So, if you're increasing inventory, you're stocking up on supplies. It's only hoarding if you have no intention of shooting it unless a SHTF scenario.

This year, and probably most of next year, has been killed for shooting per recreation. Sucks, but that's probably the truth

Just had to vent a bit
