Went to the cabin this past week for the wife and I's 9th Anniversary. We were going to leave Saturday morning, but the freezing rain reports kept us home. Pretty much the same Sunday, but I said to hell with it, let's go. The outlook weather wise was dismal, so the chances of getting a hike in didn't look good. Not much of a chance to use the blades either, but I did get a little in.
All rain on the way down there, but on 67 it was freezing rain. The roads were well salted, and a non issue:
This is what it looked like out Sunday evening when we got there. Very foggy, as the flash of my camera could attest:
Monday morning, much of the same. Fog and rain:
Went for a walk down to the river:
A few 9 shots:
There was a small tree that had fell/blown over, so I chopped it in half:
Macro shot:
Close up of the same:
Not too cold Monday night, about 56°:
And rainy:
A toast 81° in the cabin:
Tuesday morning, the same. Overcast and rainy:
The river was on the rise:
Had the 4 with me, and chopped off a piece of the same log:
Decided to go for a ride. This is at the Coldwater conservation area. Some bamboo:
The flooded river:
Drove through the Sam A. Baker State Park. Not too many photos. Pretty area though. Want to come back and get a hike in:
Anywhos, got back, and chopped up some dead stuff with the niner for the wood burner. Everything was so saturated, but I knew I could place it by the wood burner to dry out.:
Found some old split rail fencing under my shed. Not good for much, but will burn well, so I chopped it up too:
Getting some nice size chips:
Wednesday was the best day we had weather wise:
Actually got to see a bit of blue sky:
A few 9 shots:
I got my wife a Fiskars hatchet for Christmas. Didn't fare too well on some of the dead stuff around here:
One of the highlights of the vaca took place Wednesday evening. We purchased a campfire cooking set to keep at the cabin. Pretty cool actually. Has the 2 side posts, crossbar, 5 different length pot hooks, lid lifter, utensil holder, and fire poker. We loved it. Worked out great:
Got the fire going:
You can see a dutch over we got for Christmas a few years ago. I seasoned it before we left:
Heat up the pot a bit:
Lid lifter in use:
Hamburger in for browning:
to be cont...
