A 940-1 with a 943 blade?

I love the blade shape of the 943 and I really love everything else (except the blade shape, which I dislike) of the 940-1. Would it be possible to disassemble both a 940-1 and a 943 and then put the 943 blade in the same knife as the 940-1 scales, lock and pivot assembly? The scales have a minor construction difference - standoffs vs backspacer - but I can't imagine that that has any effect on the moving parts. (Of the two, I only own a 943 and I've never disassembled it.)

I recognize that a more effective and probably cheaper way to get what I want would be to have the spine of a 940-1 reprofiled to be shaped like the 943... but I'm just curious. If I ever decide to invest in such a design, I will definitely do it that way because of the S90V and the stonewashed finish; I don't care much for Benchmade's S30V or their satin finish.

What your asking is doable. I have a 943 that I used the 940-1501 scales on. It was pretty easy. I have another 943 on the way so I will have to figure out what 940/943 combination I will come up with it.

My new "940" started out as a 943. Previous owner had Benchmade swap the blade. So I have a satin and black 940

Yep it'll work, the one on the far left in this pic is in 940-1 scales.

Yes, it should work. I had my 943 blade on my 940-2's handle and loved it (until I got some DoAT's custom scales.

I had a 940-1, but never warmed to the blade shape. I love the 943, but am not a fan of aluminum scales. My 943-1 Franken pushes all the right buttons, though. True, a "better" blade steel would be nice, but Benchmade doesn't sell enough 943s to warrant putting out any LEs or offering options. They do a nice job with their S30V, though, and it takes a keen edge and holds it for a pretty reasonable amount of time. It touches up easily, too, and, honestly, how much hard cutting are you really gonna do with an EDC of this ilk?

I love showing this one off, but could find but one stale pic in my files, so here's a couple fresh ones I just shot on the back deck.

Benchmade does CF as good or better than anyone. There's nuthin' wrong with the stock clip, either, but the split arrow goes just great on these scales.

I believe I saw mention (on Facebook) of a 943-1 type knife being in the works as a dealer exclusive. If I hear more details I'll let you guys know. Just a rumor at this point though.

This is what Jimmy had to say in another thread--

...the main reason we haven't done another 943 variant comes down to volume. The 940 sells nearly 5x what the 943 moves so it just hasn't been a priority.

--though it would be nice if the rumors you heard had some truth behind them, -Corey- -Corey- . One can always hope....

The guy that mentioned it is usually always in the know when it comes to Benchmade, so I assume he got the info from a reliable source. We'll just have to wait and see. He did drop a pretty obvious hint as to which dealer it would be, but I don't know how hush hush it's supposed to be, so I don't wanna let that cat out of the bag until I know it's a sure thing. It is one of supporting dealers here on the forum though.

Thanks for the info, everyone. There are some very nice combinations on show here.

Maybe if they put some nicer scales and a stonewash finish on a 943 blade that wouldn't be the case...

A 943 in M390 (or something similar) with a CF or G10 handle (aluminium handles isn't for me) would be very tempting...

We have been whining like a bunch of brats for a bad ass LE 943 for quite some time!!
Maybe someone heard us???
Really hoping so!!

I think of the 943 as a smaller cousin to the 710. All it needs is a G-10 or CF upgrade. I've always preferred the blade on this knife.

I wasn't sure if they would do that, wow I'm impressed with that.

I just got off the phone with Benchmade to see if they would swap scales and back spacers on my 940 & 943... They said they wouldn't do it. I really want my 940 to have the black scales and blue spacer.
