not only you etes not honnette with customers foreigner but also with your compatriots
you etes socitée the worst with which I dealt.
for your information here what I read on rec.knives

Well, it appears that this will be my final update. I am very sorry to
say that things ultimately DID NOT work out. I was told via e-mail that
my order would ship Tuesday the 7th. Today is the 14th and I received
neither my order nor any information regarding it. Yesterday I finally
tried to call them. Yes, I know I said before that they had no number
listed, but I found one on their FAQ page. I'm not sure if I overlooked
it previously or if they just recently added it. Anyway, I did call it
yesterday around 2 pm, I guess. I got an answering machine. I left a
message asking for them to call me back ASAP so that I could find out
what the deal was with my order. I left my phone number, name, and all
that relevant stuff. I received no call back from them and they still
had not called as of a little after 6 pm today. Basically, I had had it
with being jerked around and mistreated as a customer, so I contacted my
credit card company to find out about stopping payment, etc. After I
found out all about that I stopped payment and called
cumberlandknives.com again to cancel my order. I got the same machine
and left a message to cancel my order. I also e-mailed them to cancel
my order. They promply responded via e-mail that my order was in fact
cancelled. There was no apology or explanation despite the fact that I
think I handled the situation very gentlemanly. Frankly, I'm glad to be
done with the whole affair. As I told cumberlandknives.com, I ended up
getting what I wanted elsewhere for quite a bit more money, but the
extra money was well worth dealing with a reputable and competent
business that clearly values its customers. I think it is quite
remarkable that I was told my order would ship on the 7th and it
apparently had not shipped as of today, the 14th. Not only this, but
cumberlandknives.com did not contact me at all to let me know that there
was a delay.

Now, with respect to the above, consider what cumberlandknives.com says
on their web site (http://www.cumberland-knives.com/Shipping-Info.htm):

"All orders are considered High Priority, and as such are shipped as
soon as is possible. Items in stock will normally be shipped within
24hrs of ordering. Of course, there will be times when this is not
possible : Weekends, Holidays, etc."

Well, apparently, then, my order was not in stock.

"95% of orders not in stock, will ship within 72hrs of ordering. There
are fast and reliable wholesale networks available to us, which make
securing your order very efficient."

This is either completely false or my order was in the 5% that do not
ship within 72 hours.

"If you order an item that is not in stock, or readily available through
one or more of our wholesale networks, we will contact you for further
instruction. At that time, you may choose to backorder the item/s, or to
cancel your order."

Either this is also totally false or they just failed to do me this
service. Nonetheless, it seems that my order was backordered, but I was
not told this. In fact, I was never told anything significant about my
order other than the claim that it would ship on the 7th--which it did
not. Had I known on the 7th that my order hadn't shipped as planned I
would have purchased elsewhere. Instead, I assumed it was in transit
until I still didn't have it at the end of the week.

In the end, however, I'm not interested in slinging mud or anything like
that. But I know that if I had known what I know now I could have saved
myself a lot of hassle. As such, I hope someone can benefit from my
negative experience. Regarding cumberlandknives.com I say buyer beware!
At the very least they are prone to incompetence and they may very well
be outright dishonest. I will give them the benefit of the doubt,
however, and judge them to have been both incompetent and not at all
customer friendly.

For a little background on myself, I have ordered many things online and
never had an experience as bad as this one. The only other really bad
experience I had was with Amazon.com at one time when they accidentally
sent me a supposedly new book that had been written in extensively. It
was somewhat of a hassle to get it sent back to them and receive my new
copy. However, to their credit I had had many other positive
experiences with them and they were quick to respond to my concerns. I
also felt that Amazon.com was genuinely concerned about my experience
shopping with them.

Compared to cumberlandknives.com, Amazon.com -- at its worst -- seems
like an ideal buying experience and that is honestly only a very, very
slight exaggeration. The only thing that could have been worse with my
experience with cumberlandknives.com is if they'd just outright been a
scam job, which they apparently are not. They are just a very poor
business with terrible customer relations and questionable business
practices.

Finally, I would like to point out that I have *NEVER* previously
cancelled an order and I have *NEVER* been so misled as I was by
cumberlandknives.com. Today I purchased my knife at a local merchant
for more than $50.00 over what I would have had to pay at
cumberlandknives.com, but I do not feel the least bit badly about it. I
wish I'd purchased from my local merchant in the first place instead of
trying to save a few bucks with cumberlandknives.com. I found out the
hard way that you get what you pay for--sometimes even when you're
paying for the same product.

Well, that was my experience. I suppose this completes my updating on
the situation with cumberlandknives.com. For those of you who have had
better experiences with them -- if there are any -- please post to that
effect. I realize I am only one person and that I could have just had
an isolated negative experience. I personally will never shop with
cumberlandknives.com again, but if my experience is a rare one I would
hate to see cumberlandknives.com receiving overly negative press. After
all, I know you can't please all of the people all of the time. So,
again, I do encourage others to post their experiences so that perhaps
any future potential customers can have the best idea of what their
shopping experience is most likely to be like with cumberlandknives.com.
For those of you that do order with them I wish you the best of luck and
hope that they treat you better than they treated me. No one deserves
to be treated as poorly as I was.

Thank you all for your time and I hope this proves to be of some help to
someone.

JayDee

P.S. - When I spoke with my credit card company today, they informed me
that cumberlandknives.com had billed my card on the 31st when I placed
my order. However, they never actually shipped my order as of the 14th
when I cancelled it. As my credit card company rightly pointed out,
this is really poor business practice and is not usually done.
Typically a company will not bill a credit card until an order is
shipped. Again, BUYER BEWARE!!!

I had a similar experiance.I made an order on july the 26th and they charged my credit card the next day. They sent me an e-mail saying that it would be shipped shortly. Well a week later I emailed them and no response. I searched here for a number which was disconnected. I e-mailed again and was told my knife was on backorder. well here we are almost 2 months later and still no knife. Oh well you live and you learn I guess.

Do a search and you'll find similar references to this particular site... I also ordered from them after the owner had personally responded to the thread... I thought that demonstrated a little responsibility...

I ordered, it was charged to my account... and didn't get here. I emailed and was told it was "returned for incorrect address." I said fine, please reship... It never arrived. I emailed and was told apparently it was unavailable. They actually did refund to my account promptly.

But, I felt that admitting it wasn't in stock in the first place would have left a better taste in my mouth...

Just to keep things from getting confused, this is NOT referring to www.cumberlandknifeworks.com which is a completely different place and is an outstanding example of consistently good customer service.
