So a couple of months ago I agreed to trade a Bark River golok and north star for a Patton mini bowie, the other participant was someome unfamiliar to me but I had reason to believe they had conducted at least one trade on BF without incident. I sent my knives and recieved a notice from the other fellow with an insurance and con#... after about 5 days I emailed him and let him know that I still hadn't seen the mini bowie and also to check if he had recieved the brkts... he emailed back within a day too let me know that he had just recieved the knives and was surprised that mine hadn't show. I checked the PO which could only tell me that my package (the one he mailed) had been accepted in OK city but no further info was available. A few more days passed and I emailed back to report this to the other person and got nothing for a few days, finally got an email saying that he would mail my knives back as he had to be the one to claim the insurance from the PO, which by the way can't be filed for 60 days... I emailed him a thank you and my address again and nothing... no response to email and no knives and nothing from the PO... I honestly don't believe this person intended to rip me off, though I may be being niave but the fact is he has both my knives and the ability to claim his insurance from the PO and I ain't got jack. That said, this has been my only problem with anyone that I have traded with on BF... at least on my end... guess that will teach me for trading with someome with only a few posts to his credit, no matter how nice his knives are. I am willing to offer the persons bf ID, though I don't think I still have his name and address... if people here think that is appropriate.

I hate to see this happen to anyone here. Hope he comes through for you. If not; I think we would all like to know who he is.

While the USPS can make mistakes, like the other shipping services, it's somewhat mind boggling that a package addressed to FL ended up in OK (I'm assuming that you asked to have the package shipped to FL).

So, the first question that would come to mind. . . . .did the sender put the "correct" address on the package?

Filing a claim with USPS falls under two categories. One falls under the category of "Claims for Loss," which is considered a complete loss of the parcel. The other falls under the category of "Claims for Damage or Partial Loss of Contents." The only reason that I bring this up is that you stated that, "which by the way can't be filed for 60 days." I'm not sure if that's what the sender told you or the info that the postal folks passed to you.

The following is from the USPS website, specifically, the PS 1000 for filing "Domestic Claims."

TIME LIMITS FOR FILING CLAIMS

Claims for Damage or Partial Loss of Contents:

All claims for damage or loss of contents should be filed immediately, but no later than 60 days from the date of mailing.

Claims for Loss:

Type of Service…………………………………..............…… Claim may not be filed until . . . .

Insured………………………………………………………..........................….21 days
COD…………………………………………………………...........................……45 days
Registered Mail……………….………………………......................………….15 days
Registered COD……………………………………….......................………...45 days
Express Mail Service………………………………....................……………...7 days
Express Mail COD Service…………………………..………...................….45 days
APO/FPO Insured (First-Class Mail, SAM, PAL, or COD) ….………….45 days
APO/FPO Insured (Surface mail) …………………....................……….75 days

Curious, what date did you send the other party your shipping info (the second time) and how many times have you tried to contact the person in question since you sent the person your info again ?

Have you checked to see if the person has been logging onto BFC ?

I think you would be doing us all a favor by naming the person who stiffed you so that one of us is not the next victim.:grumpy:

Hi Gig1, 21 days for insurance, interesting as the PO manager told me I couldn't file for60, although that is kind of moot because I wasn't the person who insured the package at all so I can't claim it... I never saw this guy anywhere on BF except in trade knives/tools and have not seen him on BF since our trade.
The only reason I am hesitant is that I do not have his real name or info any longer and I am not sure how much use a username/first name would be to anyone' security

also, excepted in OK meant, according to the post office, that the package had been accepted from the sender in OK not that it had been delivered there. The fact that the package was insured and sent priority with delivery con and all that has not been at all useful in getting any info on it.

It is actually really easy to find out which member is being discussed here. So either edgetrip can tell us, or everyone interested can do an advanced search using the key word "patton" in the "Trade Knives & Tools" forum.

Just trying to figure out who told you what.

It also sounds as if your trading partner obtained a delivery confirmation via the USPS website, which is free. From my experiences, using that method of obtaining a delivery confirmation, the tracking service has been extremely poor. For example, all of the packages that I've shipping with that method fails to produce tracking, except for the info stating that the packages had been accepted.

On the other hand, the chances of two shipments being lost. . . . .that involves the same two people. . .is very very slim.

Without your trading partner's info, there isn't much you can do and it's up to you to provide the person's BFC moniker. I performed an advanced search and believe that I know the moniker that your are talking about. Posting it here may lead you to someone that has dealt with him and still has his mailing info. Or. . . .maybe not. As already mentioned, it will also warn others, so that they aren't taken.

His BFC handle was mountain dew and his first name as given was Matt. The only posts I remember seeing from him involved him attempting to trade a strider HAK and the Patton mini bowie in question.

thanks for all your comments and any ideas would be appreciated or anyone who may have had experience with this member.
