A Beckerhead's much needed day out. PIC HEAVY...

Sounds fun man!!

Does anyone have some good resources for fire building in snow/rainy/wet conditions? I guess I could use google, but thought you guys might have some threads of your own.

Here in the desert I don't get too much time practicing in those conditions. It was raining so I decided to head to the hills and do some skill building, tried fire to no avail.

Thanks,
Cole

Looks like an excellent time !! Wish I could get time in the snow soon.

nothing really different than building one in summer conditions except keeping the initial fire prep off of the wet ground or snow. my preferred way is called a reverse log cabin: i lay down my biggest logs/fuel on the ground and progressively pile on the smaller stuff. another alternative is to use bark to lay your prep on - even if it's damp it's still better than the wet ground.

another thing is to be really patient in your fire prep even before attempting the first spark. my recent thread on the w&ss forum. the ground is wet from the overnight frost: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/903705-winter-fire-prep-hike.
