A BEEFY folder for a street or used price of around $75.00?? Is there one?

My vote goes to the Cold Steel Ak-47, esp. the ultra lock version if your looking for beefy. It's easily the largest 3.5 inch blade knife I've ever seen or handled. New one is awesome too, beefy would definitely describe it though not as beefy as the Ultra-lock.

not sure what the current auction site prices are, but I got a used Ontario XM-1 less than OP's max it has a 3.75 in blade and N690 steel and blade thickness is .190 with titanium liners. Junkyard 2 composite blade is a very good knife as well as Buck CSAR-T.

Have you seen the Hossom Retribution too?

Spend the extra $25 and get a Paramilitary 2 and you'll be set for life!

If you absolutely can't, the Manix 2 would be my next choice followed by the CS American Lawman which is easily the most robust of any other folder mentioned. I just don't like CS's cheap black coating and primitive AUS-8A steel. I guess I'm spoiled.

+1 if you can find it at that price. You may also consider the Boker Plus Field Marshall, designed by Mr. Begg. 440c blade, 3/16" thick. Mmmm... beefy...

Lots of nice knives mentioned here! I will have to throw my hat in with the Kershaw JYD Combo edge. Used it for about 1 1/2 years now at work, and the D2 is excellent, and the knife sill locks up like a vault.

Aus-8 is fine for a beater knife. I have a couple of knives that I use at work (I'm a roofer) and it handles the abuse quite well. By abuse I mean hitting staples/nails, cutting asphalt paper, prying, etc. I'll take my cold steel ak-47 over my cts-20CP Para2 any day I'm on a roof.

Any Cold Steel Tri-Ad design or the Pocket Bushman, Ontario RAT-1, Ka-Bar Mule...

Good luck! :)

I got my ZT 0200 for $75 like new, but it was used.
The 2nds XXXX ZTs are also a great deal.

The Kershaw Tremor is also a large heavy fold, for $30.

Also look at the Gerber 06 manual. Great knife made in the USA with S30V. Picked mine up a few weeks ago for under $70.

A para 2 is hardly a "hard" use knife which the TS wanted ..i own 2,3 soon(m390 soon ).its a superb slicer and edc for cutting boxes etc but has a weak tip and under hard use will flex and break

also AUS8 is a fine steel and gets scary sharp takes a fine edge, has good corrosion resistance, and has decent edge retaining properties..

TS is looking for a knife he can beat on not a showpiece ... most people would carry a para 2 for slicing and something else for hard use like a ZT or something..

^+1. the para2 is an excellent all-around/EDC knife, not beefy or "hard use". if i need to do some heavy work, my M4 manix2 is the first thing i think of (or my kabar large dozier folder, 4mm thick AUS-8), anything more than that and i go to a heavier fixed blade.

Yeh, this. ZT 301 and grey para for me for my tough knife/hard use combo. Sometimes rajah 2 and grey para.

You actually have a lot of options, most have been mentioned here in earlier replies:
Cold Steel Recon 1 or American Lawman, Kershaw Lahar or JYD, Ontario Rat-1 and Spyderco Tenacious are also good choices.
