i traded a handmade knife for what turns out to be a clone! The person I got the knife from is a member of a Facebook forum that I posted several knives for sale. I have messaged the person and will ask him to return my knife, if he doesn’t I will let everyone know who he is and to avoid him.

Ok I heard back from the person I made the trade with, he said he would return my knife next week. So far, so good!

I didn’t know it was a clone until I listed it for sale then other members brought it to my attention.

On these trade deals, wouldn't it be better to make them two separate, and individual, transactions? Like, he pays for yours, and you pay for his, via Paypal, that way you have some type of protection?

Personally, I'd hate to send a knife off, in the mail, and hope for the best.

i think it really depends on with whom you do the trade...if it's with a long term forum member with a stellar rep then i'd have no problem nor would i have a problem with someone i've done biz with before and have had seamless transactions..usually if someone i don't know comes to me with a trade proposal i'll have them send their knife first and wait until i receive it to send mine...if they won't do that then count your luck stars as you've most likely avoided a potential disaster!

EDC deal or no deal. That's a group where you can post up scammers as well. I do agree with Break14, that is why I don't do trades.
I've done a fair bit of trading, but there's models that I'll avoid like the plague. Anything that's readily counterfeited, like that Infidel, I won't do a trade for unless the other party is a friend.

Hope this ends well for the OP.

I have done 1 trade here. It was with a good forum friend and I had absolutely 100% confidence in him.
It worked out perfectly.
Trades just seem extremely risky to me.

Really hoping the OP gets made whole.
Joe

That sucks, hope you're made right. I've made many trades here without a hitch. Yeah, we get a little cautious when the person we're trading with has like 1 feedback, but a little trust goes a long ways. My trade conditions are that if you have little to no feedback, then you ship first. Never had any problems so far....

Here’s an update, the other party has sent me a money order to pay for the knife I sent him and says I can keep the clone. When I receive it I will post that this is finished and be done with it.

Awesome news brother! I'm looking forward to this thread, having a positive conclusion. :)

I’m not sure that knowing that there’s never been a blue Infidel qualifies as “common” sense.

^ Agreed! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

If and when you get that MO and your money back, I'm hoping that you will either destroy the clone or mark it in some way such that nobody can ever sell as a legitimate BM in the future. It is, of course, yours to do with as you please if the seller does not want it back. :) I would just hate for it to fall into someone else's hands and then they think it's real or know it's not, but then try to re-sell it as such.
