A better Hori Hori

Any suggestions on making a better hori hori garden knife that can be taken for hunting/camping. I was thinking of an ergonomic handle along with a hand guard....are there any more features I can add...also what kind of blade should I use.can I use pakkawood for handle..

I'm into the idea of improving on a hori hori but why would you want to ram your hunting knife into the dirt?
