Here is a terrific example of the work of one of a group of talented bladesmiths that I have dubbed “The Boys from Brazil”. These guys are collectively turning out some first rate forged bladeware at very attractive prices. This particular example is a forged integral Mediterranean dirk by one Ricardo VILAR.

This knife is forged from 52100 steel (starting with a 1” round bar). The blade is approximately 8” in length, flat-ground with a sharp convex edge and a well-executed hand rubbed satin finish. A false edge runs half of the blade length. The trademark S-shaped choil provides a comfortable and safe finger stop and obviates the need for a guard on this type of knife. Overall length is 13”.

The integral bolster is deeply-grooved. The palm-filling octagonal handle is formed from a single piece of nicely grained Brazilian rosewood. It is inlayed with a stainless steel escutcheon and the same material is used for the elegant stepped pommel.

The knife comes with a leather sheath by maker as well as a padded zippered case (not shown). It is priced for quick sale at US$OLD shipped anywhere in the US or Canada. This represents a tremendous value in a big forged integral fixed blade. The first e-mial with the words “I’ll take it,” gets it. I am able to check my e-mail first thing in the morning and again in the evening. Feel free to PM me with any questions in between.

Thanks for looking.

Damn Roger! That is a really nice piece. I just gave into a couple impulse buys or I would have been all over this one. Somebody is going to get a great blade at a great price.

Wow. The offerings here the past 5-10 days have really tempted me to expand my horizons beyond hunter/utility and try out getting a big blade. This is such a great value. Hoping someone jumps on this and spare me the agony of decision.
