hi there I started out to make the bigger of the two knives I drew earlier last week. but instead I found the second peice of 1/4" 5160 I got from IB2V4U to make my first knife. so I just started grinding without a plan or an idea I just knew it was gonna be pretty big.

this is what I ended up with after about 3 hours of grinding
it's 10.5" OAL , 6" BL
didnt care for the look of the tip once I got my bevels ground in to where I wanted them. so I figgured I'd try a swedge dont think I did to badly either

well you guys tell me anything to fix b4 HT?
srry for the blurry cell phone pix

If the knife feels good in your hand and your the one it is intended for then there isn't much to add. It's a little difficult to tell much from the pictures and that may be why there haven't been any comments.

If it were my I would probably work on the area where your index finger will rest and round it off on the inside radius a bit more. I would also round off that sharp 90 degree angle at the bottom of the blade edge/ricasso where it drops back into the handle. That area will end up biting a bit in use if the edges are too sharp.

Be sure to show it off when it is finished.

Having seen the one you sent me to harden I believe it will come out as a fine knife. Enjoy. Jim

lotsa lookers..... no one has anything to say?

Since you asked- looks kind of like it was gound on a jig and then profiled. I kind of like a grind that follows the edge profile. Having said that, I like the double grind - AKA dagger treatment.

I'm conflicted over this one....

looking good. I would have a pin near the back of the handle, I bet you will be fine without one. show more pictures when you finish.

Looks good, I would definatly taper the tange to reduce weight and make it ballance better, but overall it's a heck of a knife.

I traced my design onto the bar stock with a sharpie and profiled freehand on the grinder. I then attach a plunge guide to get my plunge lines set and even then remove it to finish grinding the bevels

actualy I was going to use the small holes as the pins and was trying to find the drillbit to drill for a lanyard hole. the big holes were just to lighten the handle some but I had a brainstorm and now I have designed a set of custom aluminum, waterjet cut "mosaic" pins to fit the big holes. these are gonna be wicked cool. and the best part is I can get more whenever I want as it's my brother in law cutting them for me in his spare time at his work :)
