Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here at the forums. Visiting the forums has been my main form of entertainment for these last couple of months. Back in mid February of this year, I lost the hearing in my right ear overnight which made me lose my equilibrium. The resulting vertigo made me sick to my stomach and I was vomiting pretty regular. I spent 3 days in the hospital as they ran all kinds of blood tests, x-ray, CT scan and an MRI trying to find out what happened.
My hearing in the right ear is nil at the present and the resulting balance problem forced me to give up my latest 4-legged buddy, Harry. Although he was my motivating force for getting up in the morning, I just wasn’t giving him the care he needed. Then, at the end of March there was talk of me going out of work on short term disability. Before that was even settled, on the evening of April 2nd, the hearing in my left ear went bye-bye. I still don’t know why or how this happened so quickly. I have visited with an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist on 3 occasions and yesterday he put me on steroids to try & recover some of my hearing but he is telling me to go to the neurologist & get another MRI taken.
Right now, as far as I’m concerned, I’m deaf. I can’t hear the phone ring or hear the person on the line when I make a call, can’t hear the doorbell ring, I can’t hear a person talking to me… I think I need some shirts that say… “I’m not ignoring you… I just can’t hear you!” I can’t hear my pee hit the water in the toilet, I can’t even hear the toilet flush when I’m done… got to do a visual. Now I’m thinking I won’t be able to renew my driver’s license. It’s been a scary situation and I think I’ve kept my sanity by being able to communicate with people over the computer. Again, I say thank you for the fun and enjoyment the forums are giving me!

I don't know what to say. If there is anything that any of us can do please let us know. After all that is what friends are for.

Your problems might be caused by high blood pressure, a result of reading the Political Arena. ;)

Seriously though, take care of yourself. Post in anytime and keep us up-to-date with your progress. Or tell us a joke, or show some pictures of pocketknives, or whatever.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

:( ...Oh man Gary...You've had way too much crap piled on ya lately my friend...Gonna put out a few requests in your behalf to that "Big Fella"...My thoughts are with you Gary...Just remember...It's all mechanical or chemical...they can fix it...

OMG!! I am so sorry!! I don't know what to say!! i will be praying for you. I hope they get to the bottom of what is causing that. That is so sad that you had to give up Harry. I know that about killed you to do. I f there is anything I can do, please let me know Gary.

Jeeeze, keep us posted Gary...in the meantime, I'm sure we'll all be saying an extra prayer for you:thumbup:

I'm sorry to hear about the ears- that can't be any fun. I'm glad that you can find enjoyment out of bladeforums though- it's nice that there's something there.

Keep us posted man!

Smoke and best wishes,

~Peyton

Not good. Get it fixed. Whatever it is, I hope they find it fast.

Stay online! I can't be carrying a clipboard around just to tell you a joke.

That is terrible. I'm really sorry for what you are going through. Sudden loss of hearing must be extremely frightening and frustrating. I hope that a medical solution can be found for you.

I've been reading your posts for years and know how important Harry is to you. Can you get him back when things stabilize? I imagine, even if you don't regain hearing, you will learn to adapt and still be able to provide proper care.

I'll hold the clipboard... I'll even supply the pen! Hope you write better than my doctors! :D

Thanks for the concern, dizos...
When it happened to my one ear, it didn't scare me too much but when the other ear went... I had a feeling things were not going well and then I was scared! Definitely a frightening situation.
I've always had a dog by my side and Harry was the latest. Things may change but I'd really like to see him hook up with a family that can provide him in a better way than I can. In a couple of weeks, I'm hoping to go see Harry and say hello at the PetSmart where People For Animals show the adoptees. I'm also bringing a few dog beds, food & water bowls and a few more packages of treats I've amassed over the years for the group's use.

Thanks everyone for your concern... I'm still hanging in there!

Well, I hope things take a turn for the better before much longer. Sounds like you are in the middle of a very bad run.

Wow this is really terrible.
Medical problems are bad enough, but having to give up your dog is the most devastating thing.

I'll be praying for you Clydetz.
And for Harry to find a good new home. Maybe something temporary so you can take him back when you're OK again?? I'm sure you've thought of that already.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Gary, whenever I read something like this the first thing I wonder is if some medications (either OTC, or prescription) are the cause. Either can do it, antiinflammatories and some antibiotics to name a few off the top of my head. So if you use any meds double check on known side effects of those...even if you have been using them for years. As a person ages, even if they use a med with no complications suddenly they can be hit with some weirdo stuff.

Keep us posted as to what's causing it and hopefully what they can do to fix it. That's scary to wake up and have soemthing terrible happen with no reason.

And don't worry too much about Harry. He'll be in good hands and you can go see him. Take care of yourself!

So sorry to hear of your problems...We will be praying for you.

You might have someone call the phone co. for you, they have a device that attaches to your computer and converts voice to print and also has a device that flashes all the lights in your home when the phone rings....It's worth a call....Good Luck and God Bless.
