Just got this together. I was thinking this was 1065 but now I'm thinking its 5160 because of the size of it. I need to start marking my blades as to what they are, my mind seems to be going at times. Hand forged 11" blade, elk bone handle with bronze fittings. Its just over 16". Tried a couple new things on this one. This is the first S guard with the flaired tips that I've done and also inset the but cap. I'd appreciate your comments......Ray

Ray,

I'm entranced by this knife. Aesthetically it is quite attractive. The finish you've got on this blade communicates "forged". Also, is that a copper or a brass spacer between the top of the guard and the blade? Is the clip sharpened?

Would you be so kind as to post a picture of the buttcap inset?

Thanks,

W.E.

Glad you like this knife. the spacer and all the fittings are bronze although the spacer on front of the guard goes I'm not sure what type of bronze it is. It was once a kick plate on the bottom of a school door at one time. It does have a copper look to it. I'll have to get a picture of the butt plate tomorrow when I've got some day light......Ray

The clip is not sharpened.

Ray, your knives are getting to be some of the nicest I am seeing. The way you put that patina on the blades is wonderful.

This knife has the total package. Please post a few pictures from different angles. I want to see more of this knife.

Keith, Are you saying I need to do some chumming? I'll put some more bait out alittle later today. Are you planning on going to the OKCA Show in April or the one in Washington in May? I'll have a table at the OKCA Show and most likly be doing the one in Washington also......Ray

Ray this one is OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!!

The guard turned out really great.and the inset buttcap looks great also.If you are not careful you will start doing them fancier and fancier then you will have to start polishing the blades again:p :D :D
You have found your calling with these style Bowies Ray,I know you could teach me a few tricks if we lived closer.
Bruce

Bruce, I've grown out of the polish thing, this is about as fancy as I get. Simple, clean and straight forward is all I'm going to be about. About the only thing I could teach you is how to drive a nail. If we lived closer I'd come over and bug you for a change......:D

a butt shot....

I've got a front shot but screwed up and have to wait a few minutes before I can get back in and get it. I'll go feed my cows and try after that...

WE, Its set into the bone about an 1/8". Easier for me to inset it since I made the end of the bone with a radius.......Ray

Ray, you know darned well that you don't have to put out any more bait, its just that I find this knife particularly to my liking. It has fanrastic proportions and a beautiful finish. I don't know if I will be maiking it to any shows. I need to save all my money for some knives I have coming. Where is the Washington show held?

Keith, The Washington Knife Show is in Puyallup, I believe its just North East of Olympia. Its on the 17th and 18th of May and I believe they have another in August. I think its a fairly new show but I could be wrong.....Ray

Thanks, Bruce. I try, I still need to make a filter. Found out what works the best for me is the one small skylight we've got. Its been so grey and wet here that the light comming threw the skylight is almost perfect.

That is some classy work there! Wow that's a gorgeous knife..., thanks very much for sharing.., and no I don't think you need more bait....lol
