A few weeks ago I posted a bowie that I forged while getting coaching from some local blacksmiths and showing them my processes in knife making. I called it a Butt Ugly Bowie because I didn't like the symmetry or proportions. I got a lot of e-mail about the knife so I decided to make another with a little more attention to cosmetics.

Forged from 1/4 inch 516o
Flat grind
Scotch Brite finish on the grinds, forge finish on the flats
Forged Guard
Tapered tang and distal taper on the blade
Figured crab apple burl handle stabilized in my shop
Overall length: 12 1/4 inches
Blade: 7 1/2 inches
Riveted leather scabbard

Another nice knife. I really like the contour of the handle, and those forged guards are very comfortable.

That shape is getting to be your trademark. Nice knife to say the least. Very usable
It reminds me of something from the era of the "War of Nortern Aggression".
 
I really like the upset metal portion for the finger! That's just cool looking :D

That is a knife not an axe. Made to cut with. Good steel and a really nice working design. This is a size up or down type piece.

That's why I said it's getting to be Gerry's trademark knife shape. It's a good design that can go either way and do most anything.
 
Nice one Gerry. And it's true....the cease fire is simply a diversion tactic to reload and regroup...
 
I picked one of these up for my Son in Law. He takes my daughter camping and hiking .
A powerful knife that would suffice for defence duty, or fire wood work. Nice balance ,came sharp ready to use.
Any soldier would be well served by this package.
I own a few knives and would say this is a lot of return on your dollar.
