A build-a-long with J.D. Smith, MS

JD

even without the captions, I think your knife/sheath is an excellent example of the fact that great design and execution trump "fancy" or "complicated" - or to put it another way, you can't "fix" bad design with complicated frippery and 17 different materials. Nicely done

Lorien - congrats.

ok, captions added, and all the pics are in the right order

First, some embossing with a stamp and mallet. ..

Next, some freehand design work with the swivel knife...

A light coating of "atom wax"...

Buff with a soft brush...

Done!

Very nice, both knife and sheath. Love that blade and handle profile along with the Damascus pattern. What a beauty. Thank you for such great WIP photos. Mike

That package is very appealing!

it'll be a'peeling apples soon enough!

Thank you all for your kind comments and thoughtful posts. This was a quick and dirty WiP that was totally unplanned. Good practice for what's coming- it's gonna be a doozy! (Wheeler level shit!)

Please forgive the crappy, off the cuff cellphone photos :o

J.D. sent a little guy, too- crazy steel! I love this knife, gonna slap together a sheath for it so I can carry it around everyday. If I can hang on to it, my kid is lovin it too! :)

Terrific score Lorien - love them both. Please PM me the deets on the little one.
