A call for his peers to pressure the General into using his knife

Our friend in Wales seems to be hesitant to use his Sebenza, but has admitted to being susceptible to peer pressure.

So Wayne, why did you buy the knife, anyway? They’re pretty, but not that pretty! You seem to have an appreciation of the finer qualities of the blade, but believe me that is nothing compared to how it feels to use it. It is such a great tool, sharp and smooth, ever at the ready, eager to cut. You want to cut things with it, it wants to cut things, the two of you are a perfect match.

Live free or die, that’s what we say on this side of the pond

James is right. You really can not fully appreciate how good the sebneza is untill you use it.I have used mine from day one, sure it has some scratches but it is a fine tool and was meant to be used.don't hold back.

Yep, I agree. I have used my Sebenza since the first day I got it, and I don't regret it at all.

USE IT, USE IT! I have a not-so-inexpensive wood inlayed that I use. Besides if for some reason you think the knife gets too scratched up, there is reason to buy another fancy one to put on a shelf and look at!
But seriously, you have to use this knife to get the full apprecitation of it. The BG-42 knife blade just begs to cut something.

To own a Sebenza and not use it is an insult to the knife!

Once you get those first scratches, not just on the handle but on the blade. Then more, and you can recount the things you used the knife for that caused the marks, it begins to build character.

Then send it in and have it engraved, something highly personal that makes it yours and yours alone.

If you don't use it the puppy gets it!

Use it! Cut something, anything.

Then, do it again. Start small and simple, open a few envelopes, or plastic wrappers and packaging on store-bought items. Whittle on a stick. Trim stray threads or clean under your fingernails.

Work your way up from there.

To the General:

WARNING!!! If your Sebenza is not used to cut something within 48 hours I will be forced to fly to Wales to relieve you of your knife. If you wish not to lose your Sebenza, we will need photo proof that it has cut something. It must be photographed in the act of cutting. That is all.......I'm looking for decent airfare now.

Use it already.... but what can you expect from a subject of a nation that keeps its jewels locked away and un-used, maybe just send the sebenza to the tower of london for safe-keeping...

Go ahead and use it. You'll want to cut your wrist with it the first time you scratch it, but this feeling subsides after a few days.

Come to the cutting side, it draws you!
You must use the blade....you are my son!!!!

You must cut something,
the Sebbie and you.

Wayne, follow these directions carefully:

FRANK'S INSTANT PATINA (or a quick and easy way to get on with your Sebenza)

1. Put a handful of coins in your pocket.

2. Place the Sebenza in your pocket with the coins.

3. Now, place your hand over the pocket from the outside and SQUEEZE . . . SQUEEZE HARD!! Do it some more, roll that Sebe around with the coins. Let those coins do their work on those pristine titanium scales.

4. Take it out. It will look like you've carried it for a year.

5. Now, go cut something and get over it!!!

Screw it. I say we take up a collection and pay VG's air fare over there and have VG "persuade" the General in person to use his Sebenza. I see no other realistic solution.

I don't understand why you wouldn't use your Sebenza. I have been using my large wood inlay for almost two years and it has held up remarkably well. In that same time period I have completely wore out a set of Pirelli PZero tires which cost more. Yet I never thought once about leaving the car at home so I wouldn't scuff those precious tires. Use the best tools you can afford, they will bring you joy.

I think with use and scratching, the rough handle gets more comfortable in the hand (600 grit sandpaper does the same thing).

And remember, CRK can refinish it.

USE IT! You can't fully appreciate it until you really get down 'n dirty with it. You'll be glad you did.

Wayne,
You will enjoy your Sebenza more if you actually use it. I know it's nice to have knife in a collection, but then it is not fulfilling its function in life. Knives were made to cut things and feel very sad and lonely if they just lay in a drawer.
wink.gif

You don't want a depressed Sebenza do you?

Besides, it's not like a regular Sebenza is a one of a kind knife, with no other duplicate in the world. If you had a one of a kind custom by Chris I would understand not wanting to use it. Make yourself happy, make the Sebenza happy, make everyone happy and use it with pride.

Paul

Especially since I have stolen Wayne daily carry knife (his AFCK) !!!
NO EXCUSE !!!!!

cheers,
JM

Where I live the sebenza costs like a whole month's salary. When I first got mine I too was reluctant to use it until I did and found out just what functional perfection is all about

Nowadays, its pretty much the only knife I carry and has gotten some scratches and dings. Use (not abuse) them, maintain them, and enjoy them for what they are - superb cutting tools. Heck, don't miss the ultimate joy of owning great knives: using them.
