a camping knife... compare and contrast

Spyderco Moran is hard to beat. Lightweight, sharp, holds an edge forever, stainless steel, comfy handles, what more do ya' want? It's about fifteen bucks over yer stated budget, but...I thoroughly believe between the Spyderdco Moran, and the Perrin, lie two of the best values in fixed blades today.

Of yer list, I'd go with the BK 10 hands down. It's got a damn good edge geometry, a good blade length, and a cozy handle The steel in those things is awesome. I hacked a 1/4 steel cable with my BK 5 once, and baaaarely chipped the blade. It's more versatile and tough than the Spydies in a whumpin' thumpin' knife abusin' kinda way, even if it's woefully lacking in cuttting efficiency- compared to those two, it's still damn good overall) For the kitchen duty, I'd just keep the blade clean like any other knife. If the edge gets ugly so what? I'm turnin' thirty this year, and haven't been killed by a carbon bladed kitchen knife yet, an' believe me, I've used the hell outta 'em. (thought I might lose a finger or two to one once or twice though, bein' the clutzy sorta fella I am)

I guess of the ones I mentioned, the Perrin shoots way over budget unless you maybe find a used one.

I hate to do it, cuz I hold Beckers very near and dear to my wee lil' heart, but I'd recommend the Moran. It's just the best darn lil' fixed blade yer gonna find at that price, and is hard to really beat as a camp knife, or a hunting knife.

Among other knives, I have a Becker CU7 and a Moran drop point. Both are great - built for different tasks, but between the two, you could do almost anything that you might want a knife to do.

If I had to pick only one knife to keep, it would be the
Moran (amongst the Becker, Moran, several other Spydie folders,
a Buck 110,...)

the moran is good, but i think it is too short -- only 4"... becker (bk-10) will suffice. thank you all for your responces.
