I had a client bring me a piece of Pre-ban ivory he got over 50 yrs ago from his father. He asked me to make a special walking cane for him and here it is. I used bronze for the fittings as I wanted it to get a patina and look like an antique with the tiger maple. Every piece I hand made and the Damascus is ladder pattern (sorry for the bad pictures as he showed up and I had to do a fast photo as he wanted to take it). The blade is 8 5/8 inches long with forged tang that I turned and then threaded. The top of the ivory has a locking nut that is recessed and and sanded flush. The dagger is .300 thick at riccasso with a taper to tip. Here it is and I hope you like it.

'A cane with a twist' - I see what you did there:D

Beautiful and elegant push dagger/cane.

Bladescout, It was not needed. It was fine. Thanks guy's for the comments.

Nothing beats Ivory in the looks department (I wont repeat in polite company, what Patton said when someone thought that his ivory-handled guns had mother-of-pearl grips:D).
Ive no doubt, that it'll look even better than it does now in time to come.
..........and it looks pretty dang good now.
Nice to see a cane dagger for once and a push dagger to boot.

Wow! It came together beautifully Dan. Nice to finally see the whole thing assembled.

So you got some more practice on your screw-cutting Southbend. Nice choice of pitch and scale - just three full turns to release?

Scary fine Danmascus dagger grind and that Maple - oh man to have a giant pile of that stuff...

Thanks for posting this one before it got away. We'll catch up soon OK.

It has been fun to learn cutting threads on the Southbend lathe. And yes I wish I had a bunch of maple like this one. Thanks guy's.

I did one years ago and forgot just how long they take to build. I stained the maple 2 times and sanded off and finally used Potassium permanganate to achieve the color that I wanted. Was a gripe to sand off 2 stains. Bruce, would love to see you do one. Thanks all.

Very nice looking piece! That will be somebodies family heirloom for sure. Nice work.

I've often considered purchasing a sword cane, especially now that I will probably soon NEED some sort of cane. Unfortunately, California treats possession of such a piece as a felony. The only swordcane I've ever liked has, to this point, been a Berger. However, this is a really beautiful piece you've put together, Dan, and it has changed my perspective on what I would want in a swordcane, were I able to legally own one. A really great piece!

Bob
