This knife measures 7 3/4 inches in total. It came out of the Caribbean in the 1950s. There are no markings on it. The brass between the blade and the handle is decorated by punch. The blade steel is extended through the handle and secured at the end of the handle. I can't make out the crest(?) on the handle. Can you tell me anything about this knife? Thanks.

I would venture to guess that is it is very, very much not Caribbean, and, in fact, is Scandinavian.

Definitely a Finnish puukko, the crest is the Finnish national crest. The sheath and style suggest it dates late 1940's -1950's when leather was scarce and they made sheaths out of pressed, lacquered paper. The maker's name should be needle etched in the fuller - may be very light. I would think Jarvenpaa or one of the other makers of the period.

I found a pic online of an old Jarvenpaa handle. Looks like ye are correct, ye olde' puukkophile. :D:thumbup:

Is Finland not part of Scandinavia? I am pretty sure it is in Scandinavia and the Baltic. I am certain it is listed amongst the countries generally considered Scandinavian. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Denmark.

The Finnish people are however a different ethnic group from the "Nordic" people. They are part of the Urgic-Hungarian people. Atleast their language would indicate that.

Finland is Nordic, and not Scandinavian. BladeScout is correct.

My research seems to show that it is a matter of debate. Some Finns considering themselves part of Scandinavia and others not. Same thing apparently goes for Iceland. It is correct that it is considered Nordic.

One thing is for sure that knife is from Finland. Aside from the knife being a dead giveaway the sheath is a 100% ringer. I've seen that sheath on alot of WWII pukkos.

Sincere thanks to all y'all. I found the crest (TWO flowers between the lion's legs) on another knife identified as Onni Mäkipelkola.
AND I found a name on the blade but it's very, very faded. Looks like it has ". . . uhurr . . ." in it.
Can you venture a guess as to the manufacturer?
