A Case Pocketknife I brought back from the dead

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. It was a fun little project.
My grandfather wore bib overalls on the farm and I always remember him carrying a pocket knife in one of the small chest pockets. He would occasionally chew a small piece of a cigar - pull out a cigar and his pocket knife, cut a piece off and put it in his mouth!

I guess thats the amazing thing about it all. A hard working bib overalls wearing farmer, chewing on a piece of cigar, that he cut off with not a stockman, or a Texas jack, of even a Barlow, but a peanut. A Peanut!

He had great taste!

Pretty awesome save and story to go with it. Thanks for sharing it with us all.

Now thats a knife with character and a great story to boot. Great to see it carrying on its working life with you

Thanks. I was actually quite surprised that the colors came back strong in the scales!

Im interested to know what made the bone discolour like that...did you re dye it or just clean off years of built up filth?

If I was going to use this knife and bring it along with me out and about, it was important for me to carry it in a pouch. As a kid, I was notorious for losing knives! The last two folders I lost was when I was in the Army. One a Barlow I brought with me to Basic Training. Stuck deep in my front fatigue pants pocket, how could I lose that? Well I lost it during a water training exercise at Ft Polk! Somehow it slipped out and continues to reside at the bottom of a swampy lake! Second Army loss was a Buck 110, a big folder which I didn't bother to have in its' folder. It somehow walked off while on Guard Duty in Germany. How does that happen??
Anyway, I resigned myself to carrying my folders in pouches after that and haven't lost a knife since.
Here's the knife pouch I picked up second hand for the Case. Definitely not fancy but it serves its purpose.

That was the most amazing aspect, to me, of your splendid rejuvenation of that family heirloom!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

I agree. My personal feeling is that soaking it in the mineral oil really helped to revitalize the color.
