A Cautionary Tale

Paddyrat,
Welcome to the forum, and if we have done you wrong,my sincere apologies.
Nonetheless, it is asserted as fact by a respected member of this forum that:
In two cases (purchased on the same date), I did not get what was in the pictures.
Example: picture was of a khukuri in pretty good polish with a fancy "aluminum" handle, simple but nice blade decoration, and sheath with a distinctive and fancy chape (metal guard on sheath end). I got one with an entirely different blade shape, dull finish, almost no blade decoration, very plain aluminum handle of different shape, a sheaqh with extensive damage -- good for parts only, with a plain brass chape. The cho (decorative notch) is also totally different from the khukuri pictured. Bottom line, what I got is worth maybe half of what was pictured -- what I bought and paid for promptly.

To be clear, the very same pictures -- pictures of what I bought on 11/28/03 but I didn't get -- appear in two 12/12/03 auctions. The khukuris shown have distinctive scratches, discolorations.
Your response to this assertion would be most welcome.

The four kukris the person bought ARE what he received. I am getting very confused as to what as happened, it is dfown my picture host and I tried to remedy the situation. I did not own any other kukris when he was bidding so I cannot have had any other pictures! But at the end of the day I have not been dishonest, I have tried to explain my case and am sure it sounds confusing. I have offered my refund and will do so when I receive the weapons back. I am not a crook and do not rip people off. I object to the opinions raised towards my ethics by people that do not know what has gone on! I think the gentleman that bought the kukris off me is perhaps also a little confused but I will honour my refund!

I looked at the 2 auctions referenced, 2208837534 and 2208838982, and not only do the pictures not correspond to the description I quoted, but the auction description text specifically names handle types other than aluminum. TAL, it seems that if you in fact have dowloaded auction photos and pics of the items received, you should post them to help us all to a better understanding.
{And although I appreciate a good pun as well as the next fellow, as a descendant of Celts who dislikes ethnic slurs of any kind, I note that a Paddy Rat is just a big Mick Mouse}.

Indeed but as I have learnt since I moved to the UK, knife laws make the collector of knives rare enough but the collector of khukuris even rarer !!

To coin an old phrase

"Tis a small world"

maybe not but just maybe ...

Hi Tal,
Sure I remember, I also sometimes buy kuks of paddyrat on ebay.
I bid on the one the won the week before that he sold.

I did not bid on the 4 you won the following week because they did not look high enough quality to me.

I know myself that whenever I have gone back to Paddtrats old kukri auctions the images are replaced with the currant images, Due to him using the same web address.

Several forum members would know this but understandably dont seem to wish to put there necks on the line.{why do I? I hate to see unfairness & injustice, If I thought Paddy had robbed you I would be standing right next you suggesting ways to deal with it.}

Check his past sales Every week Paddyrat sends lots of valuble merchandise all over the world. Do you realy think he would switch 2 kukris that you paid £50 plus each on! I would guess he was delighted to get £50 for them.

There is no way that either of the kukris you bid on were the 2 most recently sold.

I watched the sales, I collect kukris & in the past I have bought 3 of Paddyrat & will continue to have trust in him as a seller.

I did wonder about what your motive could be, but I know realise you have just been confused by the photo switch After the sale.I can see how that would happen, But I do know what you bought.

I hope my description of what I have witnessed makes this situation clearer.

Regards,
Spiral

Tal & Spiral , must admit I have had trouble keeping up with this lot, But did see the lots being offered and at the time asked and received confirmation of the pics . I have purchased a Kukri from this seller quite a while back and bid on a few others (you probably won them spiral ) and did not have any difficulties. It could be worse I bid on and received a dud kukri from one UK supplier returned it & noted he resold it on ebay and still did not receive my US$400.00 back & never have!! Tal hope it sorts out to your satisfaction.)

Rod, that would be quite helpful but only half of the equation. The pictures of what I actually received will be posted.

Tal, sorry but I deleted pics at auction end, the reason I requested pics was that I could not see them on the listing , but they appeared later, which fits with paddys description of the events, hope you get it sorted.
