So, my wife surprised me with a present - a copy of Man vs. Wild (the book) by Bear Grylls. I know, I know. It's Bear Grylls. But, my wife tried hard, and you've gotta love that. :D

But, anyways, looking through it... it's actually not bad. It's got some real information, as far as I can tell. It's maybe like the opposite of his show? It's got quotes such as "there is no point getting water but becoming hypothermic in the process!" Doesnt sound like the Bear we know, huh? I guess no one has ever doubted his actual survival skills. More, I think he just puts on an act, like a character he's playing, to generate ratings. It probably works. But, I'm pleasantly surprised with his book. Just wanted to share. Merry Christmas, all!

Congrats! I was surprised by my dad with Les Stroud's book! I've read the first chapter and it's pretty good so far. Very accessible. You'll have to let us know how Bear's book is once you've gotten deeper into it.

Oh yeah man - I think it is more like EXTREME survival. I think his ratings are better than Les's - but I think we here on WSS are more akin to Les - so we like him more.

I am sure you will pick up a few things for that book.

bear is probably a great survivalist, but the constant surviving in harsh conditions is enough to drain most anybody (even stroud quit for this reason). the hotel business is just him trying to get a break. from watching most of his shows, it is obvious he has alot of information. i am sure it will be a great read.

I wont slam any book. All knowlage is good, and im sure there is alot of good info in that book. Keep us posted, I might have to pick that one up!

Well, it's got really good pictures.:p

But, I'll let you guys know once I get a chance to get more into it.

happy holdidays, guys

I too got lee's book from my wife!!! I educated her that Bear was a faker just in case she was ever looking for a gift for me.

You got to be kidding me, she did a lot more than 'trying hard'. She took an interest in things that are important to you and made the absolute best choice possible considering she's not a WS&S member.

Man, I envy you. Merry Christmas Mrs. LeeCQC ( and Mrs. Sharp Newbie!)
