First question, out of the spydercos what is the most useful for everyday walk around carry that wont scare people to the cops?
Paramilitary 2
Military
Gayle Bradley
Manix 2 (i have the translucent blue already but i don't carry it much because pinned construction just turns me off)
Caly 3.5
Sage 1
Also out of them if you guys would pick one to have priority to carry over all your other spydies witch would it be?

Question 2. Is the ZT 0300 worth 214$?

Statement. I have 70$ worth of amazon gift cards and i plan on putting it towards a nice new knife and i seen all of them on there.

I plan on doing a challenge that my friends say i cant do (iv had like 6 knives in the last 6 months). Girlfriend also challenged me lol. Start with one knife and mark it on the calender and use it for an entire 365 days. My gf says i can spend w.e i want on it if i accept the challenge. My friends say if i can do it and win they will all pitch in and buy me a knife up to 400$ (100$ each).

There is no exceptions to the challenge, unless im out camping then i can use a fixed blade for working on stuff.

My gf supports my hobby but thinks i spend a bit too much on knives and look at them too frequently, i actually agree with her to a extent. She says she thinks that if i carry a knife for a extended peorid of time like 1+ years itll grow on me and make me more comfortable with it. Kind of how my car is junk but i don't want a new one because im comfortably with it.

What do you guys think of the challenge? I actually think im going to accept it, Any suggestions on a knife worth of 10+ hours of pocket time a day for 365 days straight? And any tips for this because more then winning anything i want to prove to myself that i can do it and not spend 40% of my money on knives every month.

Im looking for support from the great folks on the forums here, i know im new and all but i think this is something you guys could get behind me on and help me out.

BTW im going to order whatever knife i get from amazon for the challenge because of the 70$ worth of gift cards for it to help me get a good knife at a cheaper price (in theory its less money out my pocket anyway lol)

Right now my tops are the ZT 0300 maybe the Gayle Bradley. If anyone has any tips, input, advice, or words of wisdom id appreciate it, hell even if you have critisisms i can even take hearing them if you think this is stupid or something i can handle hearing it, just don't flame me or anything like that.

My head already hurts at the thought of not buying knives for a whole year :D. I think off that list, all are good choices. For not scaring the sheeple, I would pick one of the more leaf shaped Spyderco's, just my opinon. So Sage 1, or Caly 3.5 for not scaring people, thats my tip.

Alright thanks man appreciate it, Im not so sure if im going to worry about scaring the commoners so much because my knife gets 50% use at home 40% at work and 10% in other places so its not a biggie, was just something to keep out there ya know :), that and i like to give knives for gifts too, i even got my gf into knives, she wanted some cheapies and i gave her advice and 2 days later in the mail she got 2 kershaws :D. A zing and a Half ton, along with a leathermen micra. I believe she made great choices.

Hey,

I had that very same problem, what knife to carry, Of course I settled on a knife our shop made for me . And yes for the first week or so it was something I constantly reminded myself to put on my belt as its a 3in blade, fixed model. But soon afterwards I found myself putting it on like I do my other gear, makeup etc.

Nice to hear you have a Girlfriend who supports your likes, Id keep her as we are hard to find , so my husband says. Take her up on her challenge , id sit down make a list of your daily activities you would use a knife for and go from there as far as Model, style, material makeup etc..

Folders are nice but I found myself leaning towards the Small fixed blade in trying to come up with a carry solution that could do what I needed daily, not be bulky, quick on and off the belt, also able to be purse carried if needed. And above all always WORK and not FAIL. I couldn't make myself say that about a folding model with all certainty as well,,, they fold and have to be opened unlike a Fixed blade that needs to be withdrawn from a carry sheath making for me and my style, more expedient.

regards,

Lisa

Thanks alot and ill definitely take that advice. Ill make up a list and post it on here so you guys know too, i work in a warehouse and wear all kinds of crazy things because there is no dress code so i don't wear a belt alot, gym shorts sweats pajamas sometimes lol. And yea i was really surprised when she said that i could basically spend any amount i want on a knife and then give me a challenge that was for something that i actually have a passion for, not i bet you cant watch the notebook all the way through without making a comment lol. The challenge seems fun to me, gives me a goal something to do and something to share with my gf that i can do and she will be happy with me doing.

My work tasks on a daily basis include cutting Zip ties, Shrinkwrap and opening boxes. My at home knife use is cutting strings cutting various things outside while doing outdoor chores (soon will be a lot of string for Halloween decorations). I use it very little to prep food. I don't do any heavy duty cutting with my knives, i also don't intend to use them for self defense but i would like it to be able to save my life if it needed too, more on the lines of if i got in an accident and was trapped in the seat belt, or if i got tangled in rope on the boat or any other various tasks.

I'm pretty new here and new to knives in general, but I've found that the PM2 is one of the best options of the 10 or so knives I've tried out. The blade shape seems to fit a large variety of uses.

Here's what I like about it.

1) The narrow point is useful for opening packages, reaching hard to get spots, and even works well as an eating utensil if you forget your fork.
2) The thicker base of the blade is great for slicing and cutting.
3) The longer handle lets me get a good strong grip when I'm cutting things.

Try the Gayle Bradley. Great fit and finish, great ergonomics and a great steel. I have carried both more expensive and cheaper knives, left hand specific knives, ambidextrous knives, etc. I was a real big fan of Benchmade Axis locks, but this one has made quite an impression on me. Between the GB and a Queen small stockman, I am set...

I don't understand the part about choosing a knife based on whether or not it "won't scare people to the cops?"

There are many people who would be scared by the fact that you are carrying ANY knife, even a Swiss Army Knife. I would hate to limit my knife choices based on what people might get scared by.

And as long as the knife you are carrying is legal, and as long as you're not behaving irresponsibly with it, then I don't see why you would be worried about the cops. It's always important to know your local knife laws and your RIGHTS.

Oh, and if your girlfriend thinks you spend too much on knives here's a challenge for her- Can she wear only ONE pair of shoes for an entire year and not buy any more? Or how about carrying only one purse?

If it's YOUR money that you're spending on YOUR interest (knives), then I don't see why your girlfriend should have anything to say about it. After all, you're not married yet.

One, it was separate questions not pertaining all to the same subject. Two, my gf has carried the same purse for the past 2 years and got 1 new pair of shoes since xmas. Dont judge someone you don't know.

And i got the ring 90% paid for, 50$ out each check, id say that's more then just a gf and id say she gets a say.

Forgive me for sounding so defensive, spoke without thought there for a second. Regardless i still think that the challenge is a good idea and the questions i asked at first didn't have anything to do with the contest, sorry if i was unclear. The first question i asked just out of curiosity.

No problem, I'm not the sensitive type. I was joking about the shoes, purses, and the married part, perhaps it wasn't obvious. I probably should have added a :D.

No judgement on my part. I wish the two of you all the best.

thanks, and i didn't make it clear so i cant expect anyone to just guess it. And it is my money but it still doesn't mean i should spend every extra penny i get on a knife. I see that but cant resist that's why im going to take this challenge, its motivation.

As for scaring people- I would think in my area the Sage 1 would be relatively safe but in other areas it might be too big.

I no longer carry anything as small as the Sage 1.
