I'm not sure who your email is directed to. If you ordered an Ontario RAT model (RAT-7, RAT-5, RAT-3, etc) then you should contact Ontario directly. If you ordered a RAT Cutlery model then that is us, but we do not make a 7" model of a knife. Ontario Knife Company builds the RAT line and we have no control over any part of their manufacturing or shipping. RAT Cutlery has nothing to do with Ontario Knife Company. Please contact Sue Green sgreen@ontarioknife.com or Nick Trbovich nick@ontarioknife.com for anything to do with Ontario Knife Company. At this time RAT Cutlery only builds a 2" 4" 5" and 6" knife along with a neck knife. Also, RAT Cutlery does not deal with "Supply Sergeant." All of our dealers are posted here: http://www.ratcutlery.com/onlinedealers.htm All of RAT Cutlery knife models begin with an "RC" at the beginning of the name, such as RC-3, RC-4, RC-5, RC-6, etc.

Please let us know what we can do to help.

As a side note to all of this, Cold Steel is a great company with a great product line.

To whom it may concern,

I ordered one of your knives (including a deposit), specifically the 7" tool steel model, from the "Supply Sergeant" here in Edmonton, Alberta, on or about the first of March 08. Today is 26 May and still no knife. I am an Officer in the Canadian Army, deploying to Afghanistan soon. I'll give it till the end of the week and if no knife, I'll be done with them and look elsewhere for a knife. Most likely Cold steel..more expensive but available. I'll be sure to tell the troops the same.

Not sure what response you could give at this point that would be useful valid so I won't burden you with one. Just be aware that I am not impressed at all and that it is unlikely I will take your knife with me on deployment. If you cannot be relied upon even to deliver the thing it is unlikely what it is made out to be. For myself, I'll chalk this one up to lessons learned and in future ignore hype and stick with cold steel.

That's why I always try to find out if the knife I want is in stock. I hate backorders. Seems to me that he should simply find a different dealer that has one on hand. Then again that's my American thinking.

I am in the US ARMY and I know not to put all my eggs in one basket. I also know to do some research before I send a complaint in. ;)

Plus at first he say all he wants is the RAT and towards the end I get the feeling that it doesn’t even matter. It sounds like he has all ready made up his mind he is going to get a Cold Steel (certainly not my second pick).

The real shame is they also probably cost you a future customer. I hope you can get this mess with Ontario cleared up soon as the unknowing public is getting you confused way to often these days. They are getting by on your good rep while you are eating crap from their bad one.

Well again, it wasn't even Ontario, it was (apparently) a shipping outfit saying they could deliver something when it was on backorder. Not all merchants tell you if something is on backorder, and it pisses me off if I order something and only find out later that it wasn't in stock.

So I see this as the merchant's fault, and the guy's fault for even trying to blame a manufacturer for something that is a failure on the distributor's part.

Definitely not a RAT Cutlery problem and it is true that it isn't even an Ontario problem. It's a middle-man problem - the dealer.

It also urks me when a dealer leaves products up to be ordered that they know they don't have and you have to wait for backorder.

I'm impressed with dealers that show online inventory, such as www.knivesshipfree.com.

I've been hung out before, like this guy, ordering something shown as available and having to wait. I empathize with his situation but he ought to know who and what he is sending a complaint to and the specific situation is.

It starts with Supply Sergeant and then goes to an Ontario RAT in D2.

RAT Cutlery isn't producing anything in D2.

Good reply Jeff.

I hope the guy gets the blade he feels comfortable with and has a safe deployment but think he needs to get up to speed on his info.

I just hope he's not upset with us since it's out of our realm of even fixing the situation for him. Maybe he will understand the email.

Then I bet he'll go like :

"What? Ontario knives are not made in Canada?" :p

I hope he will cancel his order and get a RC, or a Ranger. Well anything but an Ontario.

I live here in Edmonton so I'll put in my 2 cents. Supply Sergeant is a local millitary supply store that I have dealt with for a number of years. Their main focus is military surplus and rifles. They sell CRKT, Cold Steel, Ontario along with selections from other companies. I am not sure who their supplier is, but any time I have ordered form them it has taken a while to arrive. However they have always been honest with me and not given me the run around when things are slow. It is my opinion that this individual is too used to the "get it now" mentality and is frustrated by not getting something immediately. It also sounds like he has not taken his concern to Supply Sergeant himself to find out why it has not arrived.

All above my personal opinion.

I've yet to get a reply from him after my email.

You would think that after sending a blast out like that, and then finding that you sent it to the wrong people, you would apologize at the least. Apparently not though.

Maybe his e-mail goes through a "middle-man" too...

What surprises me most is that the man is an officer in our armed forces. Officers are generally well educated and trained .I recognize that anybody can have a bad day and that confusion happens ( going to Afghanistan can't be very easy) but acknowledging a mistake is definitely the high ground.

I hope the man finds a good knife .

This is a great reason to really push the cease and desist order. As mentioned above, it doesn't appear to be RAT or Ontario's fault, but rather Supply Sergeant's problem. Yet the blame comes to RAT. Unfortunately, this will probably continue to some degree until the whole mess is cleared up and Ontario stops illegally using the RAT name and trademark.

But I do agree with you Jeff, he should man up an apologize after getting your reply.
