A cool idea(in my opinion)

Cold Steel Gunsight Pocket Knife 4 Partially Serrated Spear Point AUS-10 Polished Blade Griv-Ex Handle Green

Are the Counter Tac 1 & 2 not close enough?

Obviously, the concave chisel grind is a unique feature not at all related to any Fairbairn/Sykes or Applegate/Fairbairn designs. But at a glance, they seem to fill the same niche to me.

I guess the Counter Tac has the wasp shaped handle sorta reminiscent of the original F/S knives and not the A/F update.

I suppose the Drop Forged Boot Knife has a similar issue: about an inch short and vastly different handle.

The A-F Boot Knife has the same grind and is about the same size as the Counter Tac I.

According to what I read when it was first released, Applegate came up with the idea based on the type of grinds on some yari.

So it is possible that the Counter Tac is already somewhat based on the A-F.

In 2003 I bought the Boker A-F Fighting Knife for $75.00, the A-F Boot Knife and A-F Mini Smatchet for $60.00 each, and the A-F Smatchet for $150.00.

A few years later they all doubled in price aside from the Mini Smatchet which was discontinued.

Now their prices are in the custom range.

The Taipan, on the other hand, has gone down in price, and IMO is the best modern type dagger.

If CS did make a version of the A-F it would probably be well under the Boker $300.00 range.

I'd love to see Cold Steel put out a real heavy grade Smatchet. An old school one, their Windlass connection would be prefect for this. The Windlass/ACC version is correctish, but lacks in QC, with Cold Steel handling that, they'd have a winner. Even a modern Smachet from them would be interesting.

I noticed a few days ago Mike Wallace, one of CS's old designers is working for CAS's APOC blades, and will have one out soon. Looks promising - https://apocsurvivaltools.com/products/wallace-smatchet . They also have some other Wallace and Demko designs that look good too.

The Shanghai Shadow and the Shanghai Warrior are kind of similar.

None of those previously listed satisfies the craving for a good Applegate-Fairbairn type dagger for me. I’d like one just like the original designs, with the handle held by bolt, etc. I’d even prefer it over the mighty Smatchet.

A CS made in Taiwan fixed blade AF could be well under $150 if it had a zytel or other economy handle. And I would prefer a stainless steel crossguard as opposed to brass. And if they used G10 for the handle they still might be able to keep the price well under 150.
