nice little rifle, I went to my local market and they didn't have any .22lr rifles, that little one looks interesting but probably to short to be legal in CA.

Unless Cali has some weird laws, it should be fine. If it is illegal, then that's just stupid. I can imagine the massacre.

laws are kinda limited, and these days judges and juries are instructed to NOT interpret the law. So if you ban 16 inch barrels for a theoretically valid reason (2 massacres in a year involving concealed assault rifles with folding stocks and 16 inch barrels)* the law isn't likely in version 1.0 to have allowance for a single shot youth .22

* I wouldn't ban 16 inch barrels for this reason, wouldn't suggest it, don't think it's sane. But I can see a state assemblyvegetable being under pretty serious political pressure if some 20+ kids in a highly populated city got killed and all.

Yes you can.
16" for rifles 18 " for shotguns

I like my little papoose, Perfect for plinking, really. I've yet to scope mine and find it's favorite fodder, but I suspect it's accurate enough for survival too.
I have 4 rimfires but no .22mag yet, that Davey Cricket might fit the bill nicely.
I had a daisy red rider I shot a lot right up until I got into rifles a couple of years ago, that thing was probably a few inches shorter but fun to shoot.
