a couple I finished up since Christmas

Looking good Bruce! I realy like the one with the carving, though the file knife is pretty cool to me. Hope this go round is better than the last, and good to see you back in the shop at least part time.

not yet sleepy,I have been waiting for a special project for that stuff:D

Thanks Will.My body is going crazy again now, slowing down the shop time again.Hope the Doc gets me started again soon....I am going crazy when I am not in the shop:( Hey,email me your address so I can send you back your DVD....I bet your ready to get it back..

Thanks for the comments guys:D Glad to see I havent lost it all yet while being sick....

The file blade found a home on one of my local law enforcment officers belt this weekend,That was cool.He came to the shop wanting me to design a small self defense blade for the guys here in town,That is also cool,More on that later in the week....We were doing some cutting tests with that knife, like hanging rope, all I had was some of that green and white nylon type rope from Lowes, about a 3/4 inch or little bigger.clean cuts on it he thought that was cool:D :D He started slicing heavey soul leather with it and after about 30 cuts 8 inches long got tired and the blade was still as sharp as when he started,if it would have still been daylight out I would have set up water bottels and a 2X4 and some old dry cowbones for him to play with also...But we will try that another day:cool:

Thanks again for all the great comments.
Bruce
Good looking stuff, my man. I am delighted to hear that a cop actually scored a nice little fixed blade forged custom instead of just doing the knee jerk thing and buying the latest, greatest serated folder made from the unsharpenable "super" steel de jour. :D I really like that litle mini-Price knife:thumbup:

Thanks Joe.....The cops have the latest greatest folders and now want a better fixed blade to carry:D

I was checking out your website and was digging your knives but i got......ummmm......distracted on some of the later pages.:D So is their hope that once I figure out how to forge and grind straight, hot chicks will dig me too? hee, hee:cool: But seriously folks, great tutorials, Bruce:thumbup: I feel like a complete dumbazzzzzz after checking out the one on the half-penny guard. I have been sitting in my cave for a year trying to figure out the easiest way to forge the ends of the bar flat....lol. That would have wasted a pretty good size chunk of 1018. What metal did you use for that guard? The torch trick is cool. i figure maybe i can clamp a big half round or a section of split iron pipe in the vice with the guard stock to use as a jig when bending the arms. I was dreading that i would have to forge it out on a swage block. Bruce saves the day just like Terry Primos did with his tutorial on using JB Weld for guards and Don Fogg with his hand sanding bar:p

Joe,Forging that guard isnt that bad....But to do it like the tutorial is easyb also. The guard in the tutorial was mild steel (1018) But I have used this method with N/S and Bronze/brass with success (just remember to heat quench-to aneal these metals then bend cold and if it starts getting hard to bend just heat and quench again then bend again)...

I cant say that you will get hot woman being a knifemaker, but it doesnt hurt any:D I see them with knives all the time....I am so Lucky to have a HOT wife:p :D :D That will pose with my knives (at least she used to:( )

Rememeber to keep your flat when bending the tips over,I dont use round bar, just the flat stock. But dont be afraid to experiment and do it different than I did,you may be able to do it better.

Bruce

i ws actually thinking of using a BIG 1 3/4 inch round bar of 1018 or a section of 2 or 3 inch steel pipe as a template for the bend so that I could just bend it down to where it was laying flush against the curve of the bar or pie and, intheory, it would bestraight and even. I think i remember Bill Moran using a similar technique maybe to get the initial bends in a metal throat for a wood sheath in his handles and guards video.

You can do it that way,but you will want to have a way to double check your flatness after doing the bends,You can bend them over the horn of the anvil also.
